For a last-minute weekend escape and a breezy road trip out of Sydney, the Blue Mountains is always a good idea. The mountain air, dramatic scenery, UNESCO World Heritage-listed bushland, hikes, waterfalls, charming mountain villages, fine dining restaurants, historic sites, and galleries all combine to make up the recipe for a perfect getaway.
One of our favourite spots to stay in the Mountains is The Machinery Shed. This luxe Logan Brae Retreats cabin is nestled onto a working orchard—the oldest still standing in the region—with wide windows and a full deck that peers out across glowing sandstone cliffs and the stunning Kanimbla Valley.
In short, The Machinery Shed is perfect for couples (it sleeps just two) looking for privacy and some R&R in one of Australia's most beautiful bush settings. A canopy of fairy lights has been strung across the ceiling to set the mood; there's an outdoor tub with a view called the "treetop bath" hidden amongst the trees, and a second bath inside the shed for cozier soaking.
Originally built in 1919, the restored shed now features all the mod cons you need for a blissful weekend away, like aircon, a fully equipped kitchen, a TV, and a dedicated workspace. More romantic amenities like the wood fireplace, firepit, secret lookout, and orchard walk are perfect for escaping the city noise and slowing down.
As for what's nearby should you feel the need to leave the cabin (and that view), Logan Brae has a neat list of neighbouring vineyards, restaurants, bush walks, and growers markets. You can also check out Urban List's guide to the Blue Mountains here.
