Giving max gusto to the saying “when life gives you lemons”, Quick Brown Fox cafe is launching a pop-up taqueria for two months to serve us more of what we need most in lockdown: home-delivered tacos and slushie margaritas.

Called Buen Taco, it’ll be a night-time operation, slinging tacos after cafe hours from 5pm – 9.30pm, Wednesday through Saturday. On the neat-sized menu are four savoury tacos that cover a lot of bases and are served in threes for $21.50.

First up is a baja taco filled with crispy Aussie flathead, pico de gallo, shaved cabbage, and lime crema on a soft tortilla; then carnitas with pulled pork shoulder, black beans, shaved cabbage, green chilli and pineapple salsa served on a blue corn tortilla; and a shredded chicken number with chipotle, iceberg lettuce, and poblano crema served in a hard-shell taco.

The fourth, and possibly most exciting of the bunch, is a saucy, messy, and supremely delicious birria taco. It’s made with queso asadero, slow-cooked shredded beef, onion and coriander and served on a fried tortilla with a hefty cup of the signature birria dipping broth. And, unlike your typical dipping broth situation, Buen Taco has crafted its dipping broth with three types of smoked Mexican chillies—chipotle, pasilla, and árbol. Amazing.

Alongside the tacos, you’ll be able to fill up on cheesy beans, made with three types of cheese (Monterey Jack, queso quesadilla and asadero), which you can top with slow-cooked beef ($8), pulled pork shoulder ($8), shredded chicken ($8) or avocado ($6). For dessert, it's apple enchiladas ($12) packed with stewed, spiced apples and topped with a decadent Mexican mole spiced chocolate sauce.

And finally, wash it all down with a slushie margarita ($13) or Jarrito Mexican sodas ($7).

As with many great lockdown switch-ups, we’re hoping those tasty birria tacos and frozen margs make an appearance on the QBF menu when restrictions ease up and we can dine in once more.
