Boasting over 40 ultra-exclusive membership clubs across the globe, Soho House has been eyeing an Australian location for quite some time.

Founded in 1995 as a hangout for London’s creatives, the original elite club in Soho quickly became the blueprint for members-only spaces designed for dining, drinking, lounging, working and working out, with a signature no-phone policy.

Since then, stylish outposts have sprung up in New York, Berlin, Barcelona and beyond, each tailored to its location with distinct architecture and unique offerings, from spa treatments to infinity pools and movie screening rooms.

Whispers of a Sydney location have been growing louder over the years, so Urban List has done some digging to find out what’s actually happening.

Here’s everything we know so far about Soho House’s arrival in Sydney.

Before their 8-day SXSW Sydney residency back in October 2023, Soho House announced that a “Soho House Sydney location will be opening in the coming years” on their official Instagram. But in true SH fashion, the details were slim.

Following this, Architecture group Tonkin Zulaikha Greer unveiled its sleek mockup designs for the Sydney hub, located at 256 Crown Street, Darlinghurst. Ring a bell? The corner building previously housed Swillhouse’s cowboy-themed bar Shady Pines Saloon, until it closed on Wednesday 23 April, 2025.

Development plans for Soho House Darlinghurst include adding two storeys to the existing three-storey building, transforming the iconic site into an estimated $80 million multi-level hospitality precinct with a luxe gym, day spa, rooftop pool and cabaret club potentially on the cards.

As for when the bump-in will finish? One of the site’s developers, Trenerry Property, suggests that the completion date is late 2025. While this could extend into 2026, we’re crossing our fingers and toes that Soho House Darlinghurst opens as soon as possible.

How To Score A Soho House Membership

You don’t have to be an award-winning celeb or seasoned influencer to sign up to Soho House. Regular folk like us can apply for a Soho House membership, so long as you're cool, creative and cashed-up—recommendations from existing members are also a big bonus.

There are a few kinds of memberships: a Local House membership providing access to your city’s House, an Every House membership unlocking access to all the Soho Houses internationally, and a Cities Without Houses membership, which entitles you to all the Soho House happenings without belonging to a physical club.

Running since 2016 in over 80 countries, the Cities Without Houses membership has already been taken advantage of by Sydneysiders on the down low. This secret-ish club has been serving a roster of slick events, including pop-up dinners with esteemed chefs, fashion-focused soirees and poolside parties featuring legendary DJ duo Flight Facilities.

So, while you’re waiting for Soho House to open in Sydney, have a peek at the membership options and keep up to date with the latest info on the launch online.
