Ignite Your Creative Spark At These MCA Summer Art Exhibitions And Events

By Isabella Jeffrey

It’s gearing up to be a hot summer this year and there are only so many beach days we can enjoy before we are permanently pruned. Luckily for us Sydneysiders, the Museum of Contemporary Art has a hot line-up of exhibitions and events to cool off around this season.

From world-class exhibitions to free after-hours events, we’ve curated your summer schedule with the MCA.

Immerse Yourself In Tacita Dean’s Largest Exhibition In The Southern Hemisphere

Person looking at large canvas

We're getting spoiled this summer as Tacita Dean brings her key works across film, art, print and photography to the MCA for the Sydney International Art Series until Sunday 3 March. From monumental chalk drawings, to dreamy cloudscapes and epic filmic installations, this Sydney-exclusive exhibition will feature not only her largest collection of workever shown in the southern hemisphere, but also works never seen in Australia.

If you’re like us and enjoy geeking out to an exhibition’s behind-the-scenes events, the museum has you covered with a free drop-in family clay activity, curator talks and sessions with an array of artists and experts. Find more information on how to get the most out of Tacita Dean’s exclusive exhibition.

Alongside Tacita Dean, we’ll be cooling off with contemporary art and tuning in to the other free exhibitions and talks also on offer at the MCA. Go from the museum’s latest Collection exhibition Artists in Focus to a showcase of the brightest young, emerging Australian artists in Primavera 2023: Young Australian Artists,  to Tarek Atoui’s Waters’ Witness with live soundscapes inspired by port cities from Athens to right here in Sydney. With talks, workshops and guided tours (Auslan sessions available) on offer for each exhibition, your summer schedule is locked in.
