If you’re already lining up your Easter long-weekend plans—coastal road trips, beach picnics, harbour swims or that one friend’s backyard roast that somehow turns into an all-day boozer—here’s the early intel on what Sydney weather typically serves up around Easter. While long-range forecasts aren’t an exact science, April is one of the city’s sweet-spot months: warm, sunny and far less chaotic than peak summer.

Here’s everything you need to know before locking in.

Sydney’s Easter Weather: The Autumn Sweet Spot

Easter usually lands right in the middle of Sydney’s autumn transition — the air cools off just enough to be comfortable but the sunshine doesn’t clock off early.

Across April, daytime temperatures tend to hover around a very pleasant 21–23°C, with cooler nights dipping to about 14–15°C. You’ll still get those warmer days nudging the mid-20s, but the heatwaves of January and February are well and truly gone.

Expect gentle sea breezes along the coast (Sydney’s built-in air-con), plenty of blue-sky mornings, and that crisp-but-not-cold feeling that makes long lunches and sunset walks hit different.

This Year’s Easter Forecast: A Bit Of Everything

Instead of four straight bluebird days, expect a mix of sunshine, cloud and a few passing showers—nothing dramatic, but enough to keep things interesting.

Good Friday (25° / 19°)
Humid with increasing cloud, turning breezy in the afternoon with occasional showers. Still warm, but not a guaranteed beach day.

Saturday (21° / 17°)
Cooler, with variable cloud and a possible afternoon shower or two. A solid café, gallery or long lunch kind of day.

Sunday (21° / 16°)
The pick of the weekend. Clouds clearing for sunny spells, lower chance of rain, and comfortable temps.

Easter Monday (22° / 16°)
Partly sunny with a chance of a morning shower, then clearing. Easy, cruisy conditions for wrapping up the weekend.

Winds will shift from northeast to southeast across the weekend (around 19–22 km/h), keeping things breezy—especially near the coast. UV levels sit in the moderate range (3–5), so still worth packing SPF.

Sunshine, Sea Temps And Rain (The Reality Check)

April usually clocks around eight hours of sunshine a day, and while you’ll still get decent light this weekend, it won’t be uninterrupted.

The ocean remains warm at roughly 22°C, so swims are still very much on—just time them around clearer windows (Sunday is your best bet).

Rainfall looks scattered rather than constant, meaning you’re unlikely to lose a whole day—but you might need to pivot plans here and there.

What Past Years Tell Us

Historically, Sydney in April is consistent and forgiving—highs easing from the mid-20s down to the low 20s, with cool but comfortable nights.

This year fits the pattern temperature-wise, just with a slightly more unsettled, coastal-autumn vibe—think passing showers over full washouts.

How To Plan Your Easter Weekend Around The Weather

Beach days?
Still doable—just be strategic. Aim for Sunday or clearer pockets between showers earlier in the weekend.

Picnics and long lunches?
Yes, but maybe opt for covered spots, wine bars or restaurants with indoor-outdoor setups as backup.

Evening plans?
Bring a light jacket—temps dip quickly once the sun goes down, especially with the breeze.

Road trips and hikes?
Still a strong yes. Mild temps make for great exploring conditions—just pack a rain layer.

Hot tip: Coastal spots like Nielsen Park, Bronte, Barangaroo Reserve and Balmoral will still deliver that golden-hour magic—just keep an eye on passing showers and time your run accordingly.

The bottom line? It’s not a total washout, but it’s also not a guaranteed all-sun weekend. Plan loose, stay flexible, and you’ll still get a very good slice of Sydney autumn.
