What To Do With Dad On Father’s Day

By Jacqui Thompson - 22 Aug 2013

Father's Day is about doing something nice for your Dad, but dads are generally pretty particular about what they eat, what they do and where they go. So we have come up with a dad-friendly list that should suit the active dads, old-school dads, and mellow dads. Across Sydney, here are our top picks.

A Bite To Eat With Dad

Breakfast

Kazbah
With artifact-filled, open-plan dining, this Balmain restaurant offers the perfect spot for a hearty breakfast with Dad. The multi-course Middle Eastern banquet, combined with generous servings, is a great way to start the day.

The Bathers' Pavilion
Balmoral is a beautiful part of the world and The Bathers' Pavilion is its prime jewel. With a fresh, modern-Australian menu and incredible views of the Harbour, this is a no brainer, dad-friendly restaurant. Also the ideal location for a post-breakfast walk.

Fika Swedish Kitchen
This wonderful new addition to the Manly dining scene offers punters a traditional Swedish food experience. The lovely Scandinavian décor and delicious cuisine is top notch.

The Sailors Club
With indoor and outdoor seating, incredible views of Rose Bay are dished up with your meal. A 1960s Palm Springs feel accompanies your traditional, delicious breakfast.

Three Blue Ducks
This intimate eatery, up the hill from stunning Bronte Beach, has the goods to back up its reputation. Get your scrambled eggs with black sausage or some delightful Bircher muesli here!

Jackies
A Paddington favourite, the courtyard basks in sunlight, while the sandstone interior provides a cosier option. The food is delicious, the service excellent, and can we suggest the Parmesan and shallot scrambled eggs or the spinach and feta scrambled eggs—yum!

Relaxed Lunches

Pilu at Freshwater
This award-winning Italian restaurant, located just back from Freshwater Beach, offers beachside views like no other and a Sardinian-focused menu. The setting is perfection and the food top-notch, any meal, let alone lunch, will satisfy. And post-lunch; take a leisurely stroll along that squeaky white sand.

The Lord Dudley
The Lord Dudley is one of Paddington's finest English-style pubs and an iconic drinking hole. The Lord Dudley restaurant, headed up by chef Matt Fosker, is filled with light and hanging ferns, despite its part-underground location. Dedicated to seasonal produce, all the traditional Australian fare is on offer with a modern interpretation.

Woolwich Pier Hotel
The newly renovated hotel serves up mouth-watering, modern-British cuisine and is focused upon using seasonal produce. Dining within the contemporised heritage space is a delight.

The Oaks
This Neutral Bay icon never fails to deliver, sitting out under the enormous oak tree is very pleasant and ideal for family get-togethers. The Bar and Grill in particular is a highlight, with an in-house butcher you can choose your cut of meat, prior to it being prepared to your exact specification. Or you can get on the BBQ yourself!

Hugos Manly
If you have ever dined at Hugos Manly you will be well aware just how picturesque this pier restaurant is. With incredible pizza and views to rival any of those across Sydney, we love Hugos Manly!

Dunbar House
Heading to Watsons Bay for lunch you feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of Sydney. The café at Dunbar House provides delightful verandah and indoor seating. With extremely attentive staff—sit back and enjoy the delicious, modern-Australian cuisine.

Fratelli Fresh
Newly arrived in Alexandria, Fratelli Fresh has it all: Café Sopra, pizzeria, bar and providore, your hearts desire will be attended to. A great all-over food experience for Dad.
