Astro is a modern Asian BBQ restaurant in Barangaroo, inspired by Tokyo's lively izakayas and sizzling Seoul grill restaurants.
Part of the group behind nearby Korean omakase restaurant Matkim and the site’s former concept SOOT (which is relocating to Double Bay), Astro is big on sharing fun alongside its casual dining offering, with pumping ‘80s Japanese pop tunes and neon details.
At lunchtime, Astro does rice bowls topped with protein picks like Wagyu brisket, miso salmon or pork katsu with a soft-cooked egg and soy broth—perfect fuel for the local office crowd.
Come dinner, an izakaya and yakiniku menu kicks in to cover small dishes, DIY grilled meats, and rice and noodle dishes.
Highlights on Astro's dinner menu include a truffle bulgogi beef sando, kingfish collar with yuzu pepper ponzu and mizuna, pork belly covered in sweet gochujang, and scallop jang bibimbap with soy and an onsen egg, plus a few cooling and creative desserts.
Drinks are a big part of any barbecue spread, so the bar does cocktails (like the Full Moon with gin, lychee, shichimi and green tea; or the Soju Wanna Drink blending soju, Toki whisky, vanilla, apricot and plum), highballs, Asian spirits, beer and crowd-pleasing wines.
