The Verdict
Cicco Zetland, formerly known as Cafe Vité, has been a thriving Italian hotspot since 2014. The family-owned and operated cafe and roastery was established by the legendary man himself, Tony Pacitto, and has recently re-opened under the new management of Tony’s son, Alex.
What does this mean? It means a whole new cafe-by-day and trattoria-by-night concept that’s all about embracing your more indulgent side—so don your best stretchy pants, things are about to get damn delicious.
“Cicco Zetland encompasses everything I feel about food and wine, as a boy I would eat anything and everything in sight and was as chubby as they come,” says Alex Pacitto. “The idea of Cicco is to embrace this and let everyone bring out their inner 'cicciotto'.” Cicciotto loosely translates to “chubby”, and yes, this is absolutely a vibe we whole-heartedly support.
From on-site coffee roasting to the freshly made egg pasta and pizza alla romana and panino, at Cicco, it’s all about striving to make everything “fatta in casa” or homemade. Using only fresh, local ingredients, the menu is a tight blend of Italian cuisine that showcases the best Australian produce—a match made in foodie heaven, really.
The beauty of Cicco is that you can visit for breakfast and dinner, but whatever time of day you swing by, you’ll no doubt want to nab a spot in the open-plan alfresco dining space. The area has a modern industrial feel with exposed brick, bare concrete panels, and black steel accents, a custom marble bar, and an open plan kitchen with an all-new pizza oven, and a Probat 12kg coffee roasting machine.
Cicco is a great place to hit with a group of mates for a spritz and a snack. The17-strong dish antipasti line-up features freshly-made house focaccia, marinated verdure and pickles, ricotta, stracchino, burrata, salami, mortadella, cantabrico anchovies, eye fillet tartare, and oven-roasted prawns.
For dinner, you’ll find pasta staples like burnt butter and sage ravioli, sausage ragu, cacio e pepe, marinara linguine, and a zucchini cream and goats cheese risotto. There's also a hefty selection of red and white-base pizzas, and you can also opt for a flourless gluten-free pizza base. If we could only choose one to eat for the rest of our lives, we’d go the black olives and anchovies fior di latte. It’ll change your life.
Should you swing by for breakfast, Cicco has an all-day menu which boasts classics like a bacon and egg roll packed with toasted olive oil bread and tomato relish, and a breakfast burger stack made with egg, provolone cheese, a house hash brown, and spinach. Treat yourself to some of the best ricotta pancakes in Sydney served with berry jam, fresh fruit, and sweet, sweet maple.
In addition to the in-house roasted coffee, which features seasonal blends for filter and espresso single origins, Cicco now serves a boutique selection of Italian and natural wines and aperitivo. Think your go-to classics including the all-important spritz and Negroni.
To top it all off, Cicco Zetland will be dropping a whole new bottomless offering soon so stay tuned for more on that.
