Ciccone & Sons Glebe

Didn’t think it was possible to travel back in time? Think again. One step into Ciccone & Sons' Glebe store and you’ll be transported to 1950s Bologna. Oh, and did we mention the gelato is some of the best in town? Yeh, that's a pretty big drawcard, too. 

Since opening its OG Redfern ice cream parlour back in 2015, Ciccone & Sons has been making traditional Italian gelato and sorbetto for dessert-loving Sydneysiders—you won't come across any candy-spoked, OTT creations here. Instead, you'll find excellent scoops made in-house by co-owner Mark Megahey (he’s been doing this for 25 years, so you know it’s the good stuff). Megahey uses fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients and has collaborated with some of Sydney's top diners, including Boon Cafe and Continental Deli. Now, they’ve expanded to serve the sweet tooths of Glebe. 

In terms of gelato, expect some beloved classics like stracciatella, cinnamon, and honeycomb. But why not venture out a bit? Ciccone’s black sesame and matcha gelatos ought to pique your curiosity. And all of the gelato is also made with jersey cow milk, meaning you get that extra creamy indulgence. To sweeten the deal, they also offer sundaes, coffee, and negronis—dreamy.

Ciccone & Sons' nostalgic charm, though, comes through its stylised decore. The storefront’s olive-green exterior and exposed brick interior oozes a distinctly Italian character. Plus, it has a Pozzetti cabinet (you know, those tubs with the metal lids covering the goods)— and your nonna will tell you this is the first sign of a seriously good gelateria.

While you’re there, it'd be rude not to grab some of Ciccone & Sons' takeaway range, too, including gelato-on-a-stick and some slick merch.
