If you’re on the hunt for an epic, delicious, knock-your-socks-off doughnut in Sydney, no doubt Donut Papi is high on your hit list. The Filipino-inspired doughnut shop is one of the best in Sydney, serving handmade, sweet, doughy goodness layered with Asian flavours and stacks of creative flair.
Owner Kenneth Rodrigueza loves to push boundaries, experiment, and try new things—so in 2020, he’s branched out with a brand new concept, and a brand new pop-up dessert shop. You’ll find it on Chippendale’s Kensington eat street, just near Spice Alley—making it the perfect pitstop for a post-dumpling sweet treat.
It’s called Donut Papito and it’s all about cream-filled doughnuts or “bombos”. These new, hole-free doughnuts are inspired by Italian bombolonis—a traditional Italian doughnut that’s typically pumped with vanilla cream and dusted in cinnamon sugar.
Donut Papito’s version, however—true to form—features Asian-style and Filipino-inspired fillings like bright purple ube cream custard, pandan, matcha, Leche flan, and more.
Donut Papito’s creativity doesn’t stop at oozing, creamy doughnuts either. Here you can also order brand new desserts like slices of Lotus Biscoff cheesecake and Hojicha (roasted Japanese green tea) cheesecake. The dreamy new sweet shop is also dishing out pudding “tubs”, which are basically decadent single-serve tubs of scoopable puddings in flavours like red velvet banana and birthday cake.
“Honestly, we are getting bored with just the donuts sometimes,” says Rodrigueza on his decision to expand the Donut Papi doughnut concept. “I think we want to show people that we can be versatile and make other desserts as well!”
