Eleven Barrack is a Sydney CBD restaurant by Nick Hildebrandt and Brent Savage’s Bentley Restaurant Group (Bentley, Yellow, King Clarence, Brasserie 1930, Monopole) blending an old-world steak and seafood grill concept with a funky and stylish setting and service.
Sprawling inside the 1849-built First Savings Bank of New South Wales on charming Barrack Street, the restaurant takes inspiration from icons of the format in New York and Paris, with modern and eclectic design elements and an impressive wine wall flanking the dining room.
“We believe the dining room [has] a grandeur rarely seen in Sydney,” says Bentley Restaurant Group co-owner and sommelier Nick Hildenbrandt. “It reminds us of some of the great dining rooms throughout Europe.”
A long lunch or memorable dinner at Eleven Barrack might start with fried ricotta dumplings with whipped cod’s roe (or upgraded to Oscietra caviar and crème fraiche); move through a potato tart with blue cheese sauce and piccalilli, and spaghetti with Balmain bug, prawn and pipis in crab sauce; and centre around a shared Wagyu T-bone.
The menu offers more than 50 dishes (many off the purpose-built grill) with a separate menu available in the bar adding casual eats like a prawn bun with shellfish rouille or fancy Wagyu cheeseburger.
As with all Bentley Restaurant Group venues, the wine list is world-class, featuring top-of-class Australian makers and a varied international selection (including plenty of interesting and exclusive Champagnes for special occasions).
A fully enclosed private dining room for up to 16 guests sits alongside the kitchen, with the bar space and a few outside tables completing the venue.
