Good Luck Restaurant Lounge is a Sydney CBD restaurant by Merivale tucked under the historic Burns Philp & Co building, inspired by the dining scene of the ‘70s in New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

Described as “great food with a side of party” Good Luck Restaurant Lounge is a 200-seat venue that spans a main dining room, two bars, and semi-private and private dining rooms. The aesthetic is an “all-you-can-eat visual feast channelling Bruce Lee, Hong Kong diners, late nights in Tokyo and neon-infused karaoke bars,” according to long-term Merivale design collaborator AKIN Atelier’s Kelvin Ho.

Executive chef Mike Eggert and Sri Lankan-born head chef Prince Jeganathan (who both bring vast experience from the Merivale portfolio) have devised a menu that transcends a singular cuisine, based more around key cooking formats: a huge wood-fired hearth, four-metre-long charcoal grill, and three blisteringly hot woks.

The menu leans heavily on seafood with standout dishes like fire-roasted prawns in tomato sambal with chicken skin and cereal crunch; smoked pork spring rolls; burnt cabbage with burrata and tomato miso; golden fried ling with anchovy XO mayo, and a flame-kissed half-kilo 2GR Wagyu rump cap. Fresh herbs, bright citrus and punchy chilli elements are present throughout, including on the dessert menu with picks like smoked pineapple pudding in lotus leaf, or a ginger and coconut stack.

On drinks, sommelier Jacqueline Doucette (formerly of the 2022 World’s Best Restaurant, Geranium in Copenhagen) has gone for variety, while Merivale’s Group Creative Cocktail Lead James Irvine developed a list of genre-bending cocktails like the Laat Jam—a riff on a spicy margarita inspired by the flavours of the kitchen—and the Matcha Kit Kat with vodka, green tea, white chocolate and coconut created tableside.

Good Luck Restaurant Lounge will open at 12pm on Wednesday 24 April. Bookings are open now.
