The rise of the sober-curious lifestyle has hit Sydney in a big way over the past few years, and Heaps Normal is one of the biggest names in non-alcoholic bar staples. That's why the Heaps Normal Health Club could be the third-space we've been missing, pending their fixed opening hours later this year.

This is no ordinary gym-slash-wellness arena—Tim Snape, Chief Brand Officer at Heaps Normal, is classifying it as "a flexible space revolving around three principles: play, repurpose and counterculture".

"On the face of it, the Health Club is a bar, a live music venue and a dance hall," Tim tells Urban List.

"But the ambition for the space is to rethink and reshape what ‘wellness’ means, focusing on connection, creativity and play as fundamental."

Located right next to Messina HQ and Poor Tom's Gin Hall in Marrickville, you can expect an industrial warehouse feel with design elements that pull from "Indo-Chinese Wes Anderson cues". In laymans terms? Bright, block colours, clean lines, and the Southern Hemisphere's second largest disco ball.

"With the last of the lockout laws scrapped, we’re leaning into the revival of Sydney’s nightlife with all of our friends in venues across the city," says Tim.

"We don’t just serve non-alc drinks—there’s something for everyone."

So what exactly can you expect to find within these walls? For now, the venue is functioning as an event space, with ticketed and free promoter-led parties, DJ-nights, talks, trivia, screenings and live shows to be featured in the future. Their most recent promotion featured a new Heaps Normal Healthy Hour, with discounted Heaps Normals (alongside alchoholic bevs) and vinyl DJs on repeat.

While there's no fixed kitchen just yet, a rotating lineup of food trucks are on lock for event days.

This is definitely one to watch, with more announcements and a more permanent opening schedule to launch later this year.
