After hitting viral status on TikTok and Instagram, sugar-coated tanghulu fruit skewers have landed in Sydney's Darling Square.
Hulu Hulu Tanghulu first opened in Burwood Chinatown in 2023, expanding to the Exchange Building in 2024 to neighbour other diverse food stalls like Golden Century BBQ, 15 Cenchi Japanese cheesecake, and ToastieSmith.
Owners Raymnd Jheng and Owen Yeh have blended their experiences with the sweet treat—which is Chinese in origin, and now popular across China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan—with trial and error to perfect the balance of sweetness and satisfying crunch from the sugar shell.
Hulu Hulu’s most popular tanghulu skewers are grape and strawberry, but kiwifruit, pineapple, mandarin and even cherry tomatoes can also be found in the cabinet, plus seasonal picks like cherries.
Hulu Hulu’s skewers are $8 each, or three for $20.
