Lode is conquering Sydney's inner west with the opening of their Sydney flagship in Rozelle, expanding their OG viennoiserie to a 60-seat café—plus a bakery and bread program built around their signature sourdough starter.
"Rozelle has a strong local community and growing demand for specialty bakeries, so expanding here felt like a natural next step for the brand," founder Federico Zenellato tells Urban List.
"The design follows Lode’s existing identity—simple, warm and functional, without unnecessary distraction."
This simplicity doesn't mean a lack of aesthetics. Designed in collaboration with Some Studio, the space is defined by clean lines and natural materials.
Inside, there's a bright indoor dining room; outdoors, you'll find a sun-drenched terrace. And at the centre of the space, a glass-walled prep station—where you can watch the inner workings of the bakery come to life.
"All our pastries are made from scratch daily, using multi-day techniques behind the scenes," says Federico. "There’s a lot more technical preparation and time involved than most people realise."
In terms of menu, you'll find the pies that earned them a name in the Sydney food scene, alongside daily bakery offerings and a new addition: their staple brunch.
"Our signature remains the Lode Pie, a combination of classic French pastry techniques with thoughtful, elevated fillings" he confides.
We'll be picking up the Rozelle Country Loaf for our daily bread fix—no matter how early we have to jump in line.
