Tucked into The Hub on Hall Street, Shila Kitchen brings Persian home-style cooking to Bondi—deli and cafe by day, restaurant and wine bar by night.
Founded by Saba Taghavi, the venue draws on Persian dining traditions, where meals are shaped by interaction and traditional hospitality influenced by taarof—a cultural instinct around offering, sharing and making sure no one leaves wanting.
Within The Hub, Shila Kitchen is a shift from the usual Bondi rhythm—alongside newcomers Besa and Salumerie, you'll find more of a push for hearty, homestyle meals than the neighbouring small plates and charcuterie.
The food itself is centred on Persian flavours and dishes designed to be shared, with a mix of lighter plates and more traditional cooking. Load the table with a selection of fresh and pickled veggies, dips and spreads—best enjoyed with a generous serving of lavash bread and a decadent Persian stew. There’s also a small deli-style offering of house-made preserves, so you can bring a little piece of the kitchen home with you.
Drinks stay close to the same approach—the Pomegranate Salted Spice mixes Arak (a traditional anise-flavoured Levantine spirit) with Iranian pomegrante and golden spice, served over ice. To close out the meal, Persian coffee and a lineup of teas pair perfectly with a piece of authentic date slice, halva or semolina cake for dessert.
This spot doesn't take bookings—their ethos is that a meal here is best enjoyed authentically and in he moment. Our advice? Wander in spontaneously, and get a taste of what true Persian hospitality is all about.
