The Happy Mexican

The Happy Mexican is one of Melbourne’s favourite Mexican joints, and now they have a Sydney location at The Lansdowne Hotel in Chippendale.

Owner Julian Romero and head chef Jesus Rios (who hails from Mexico City) are on a mission to deliver “a spectrum of unique, authentic flavours straight from the heart of Mexico to Chippendale,” with the Mexican cantina menu available throughout the historic pub including its breezy rooftop.

The quesabirria tacos stuffed with slow-cooked beef and Oaxaca cheese served with a side of rich broth for dipping are a major menu highlight, sitting alongside plenty of other taco fillings like beer-battered fish and marinated pork. Gluten- and meat-free diners are looked after with veggie options and corn tortillas, and there are also share plates like chilaquiles and a range of sides.

A Mexican-inspired drinks menu covers piña coladas, Palomas, mezcalitos and loads of margaritas to round out the fun-filled Mexican offering in addition to the pub’s standard sips.

The Happy Mexican menu is available during The Lansdowne's typical opening hours, meaning the Mexican fun can be enjoyed for lunches in the sun, knockoffs, and pre-gig feeds.

The Happy Mexican at The Lansdowne Hotel will open on Wednesday 10 April and celebrate with 500 free tacos and tequila shots, plus $2 tacos between 5pm and 6pm all April.
