The verdict
The amazing Merivale team have gone and done it again, The Newport is the ultimate place for your next Sunday sesh, day drinks with the BFFS or a catch up with the fam. The stunning outdoor areas (calling it a beer garden just doesn’t cover it) are literally all you need in your life, with multiple spots serving every kind of food. Want fruity cocktails? Asian stir fry? Pizza? All of the above? Yeah, they got you.
The garden is fitted out with fire pits in winter, tables with views over the water, cabanas for the squad and even a luxe European restaurant upstairs, Berts, which just happens to be all of your delicious (and Insta dreams come true).
Back out in the garden, you can take your pick from the (almost) endless—like we said, we’re talking about pizzas, burgers, seafood, salads, sandwiches, pastries, grazing boards and cocktails (duh). After you have decided what you’ll be ordering, take a seat under the canopies and enjoy the live entertainment every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Newport is seriously the place to be, and you can even bring the little ones along for the family entertainment, including face painting and live acts. BTW you can even bring your pooch. It just doesn’t get better than this, folks.

Bar Demo
Bar Demo is a late-night vinyl bar in Newtown, designed for lovers of a well-crafted drink without the fuss. Owners Claudia Morgan and Olly Churcher (Ex-Double Deuce Lounge) are bartenders by trade, so there’s faith to be had in their curated 60-bottle wine list and seasonally crafted cocktails. The venue itself has grown from their joint experiences working and sipping in some of Sydney’s best bars—Morgan says “we wanted somewhere open late where we could buy a bottle without sitting down for a meal, sink some martinis, listen to some interesting music or have a dance”. Bar Demo certainly checks all of the boxes: open 5pm—midnight, Wednesday—Saturday, with no full kitchen but a dedicated menu for snacks, and a soundtrack of full albums played on vinyl, with each night featuring a curated selection of tunes.
