Toki, a restaurant in North Sydney, puts an experimental spin on fine dining, bringing Asian flavour to your palette using French culinary techniques and fresh Australian produce. Immersed in the low-lit, deep reds and browns of the restaurant, this is a meal that will transport you through place and lifetimes.

Toki can seat 120 eager diners, but this restaurant has ensured that not all seats hold the same experience. With an option to dine casually amidst the public chatter, or more privately in closed-off dining rooms, Toki invites you to choose your level of intimacy and atmosphere.

The menus are divided similarly. Seated beneath the vintage chandeliers, diners are welcome to pick what sounds best from the à la carte menu, or broaden their tastebuds with the sample menus. Enjoy the evening your own way, or allow the head chef–with experience in Michelin-starred restaurants–to take you through time with his tasting menu, designed to imitate the chapters of life.

Starting with fine-dining classics such as salty Sydney Rock oysters, the dishes at Toki grow in complexity. Plates of marron udon seasoned with beurre blanc and lobster bisque, or exceptionally tender Wagyu tomahawk with mustard and chimichurri, are just a couple of your options. All of them are almost too photogenic to eat. Almost.

And if the burst of flavour from such meticulously crafted food is not enough, Toki has an arrangement of premium wines held in their cellar. Guests are not only able to choose from this variety, but are also invited to an inclusive wine tasting experience when dining, guided by the in-house sommelier.

This elegant and bold fine dining restaurant can be as pricey as you decide. The main plates on the à la carte menu start at $35, with the chef’s tasting menu at $170 per person and the sharing menu beginning at $180.
