Wellington
In Wellington-Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Christmas lights displays across town are always worth checking out, with the best of the bunch generally going down at people’s actual residential addresses. Here’s the top 3 locations we recommend you put on your festive things-to-do list in Wellington for Christmas in 2025.
Lower Hutt
18 Avery Grove, Boulcott
Registered on Light Up Christmas NZ’s website as of 2025, this address has been popping up for a few years as a great one in Lower Hutt. While there’s no confirmed time or dates for this address, you should be safe rocking up between December 5th and 31st, from 8pm.
97 Cambridge Terrace, Waterloo
This family have been making waves for their Christmas lights extravaganzas for a few years now, and for good reason. From hiring a literal cherry picker to decorate their enormous Conifer tree, to bedazzling every blade of grass in their amazing garden, this a deeply considered and super thoughtful Christmas light experience in the Lower Hutt. Lights will be on from December 5th until Christmas Eve, and will run from 8.30pm to 10.30pm every night.

Upper Hutt
The Upper Hutt region pops off so much for Christmas lights every year that there’s even a competition running ranking the best, with actual prize money on offer. There are a number of houses that have registered themselves for 2025, but some notable addresses include the following:
In Trentham, 31 Tennyson Street and 6 Hildreth Street both offer a great night out of Christmas light viewing, keeping it neatly local in the same area.
In Silverstream, visit 54A Palmer Crescent and 22 Gloucester Street.
In Birchville, check out 4 Carlow Grove and 16 Whangakoko Grove.
While details of times and dates are not confirmed for these addresses, we reckon you’re in for a safe bet turning up around 8pm, any nights between December 5th and December 31st.
Whitby
If you’re near Whitby, Porirua, you can go by 12 James Cook Drive and 8 Moonsail Drive. These addresses are also registered on Light Up Christmas NZ’s website. While there are no confirmed dates or times for these places either, you’ll most likely be in for a visual and sparkly treat between December 1st and 31st, 2025. Lights generally switch on from 8pm onwards, so arrive then to make sure you’re in the clear.
