I’ll always remember my first impression of BASK Gili Meno. The moment we arrived, it felt like time had paused. Greeted with warm smiles, refreshing cold towels, and that white sand under my feet set the perfect vibe. Stepping off a private speedboat from Lombok, the staff welcomed us like old friends from the very first hello.

BASK is located on the quietest of the three Gilis, and it perfectly balances privacy with a vibrant energy. It felt like a mix of the calm of the Maldives and the lively spirit of Bali.  Surrounded by natural wonders sits its cluster of villas, beach club, restaurants, cocktail lounge, infinity pool, wellness retreat and gym - an army of amenities gave us absolutely no reason to leave.

Food quickly became the highlight of our stay, thanks to Chilean Chef, Bastian Marcel. The poolside cocktails and long, relaxing lunches at the beach club stole the days away while sunset dinners stole the show - especially the salmon carpaccio with soy-shiso dressing, the melt-in-your-mouth 36-hour braised short rib on roasted cauliflower purée, and the grilled live lobster with lobster-bisque linguine.

Dining at Pomona, the alternate beachside restaurant, had its own charm too. With its Latin flair and open-fire cooking, I couldn’t get enough of the generous shared plates and daily Margarita happy hour!

Art is everywhere at BASK, adding to its unique character. Founder Greg Meyer’s musical background and the appointment of James Brown as creative director give the resort a curious, lived‑in quality, one where sculpture, landscape and leisure feel like parts of a larger artwork.

We snorkeled in stunning reefs, rented bikes to explore the island at our own pace, and enjoyed fresh coconuts from roadside stalls. A short distance from the hotel is the Gili Meno Turtle Sanctuary, where they release hatchlings daily, an incredible lesson in conservation.

One of the highlights was a guided snorkel trip to Gili Trawangan, where we swam with turtles, sometimes up to ten at a time! It was truly an unforgettable moment.

BASK Gili Meno struck the right balance of style and warmth, where food, art, and laid-back island life come together effortlessly. For families and creative travelers looking for luxury and unforgettable experiences, BASK is truly hard to beat.
