Cronulla Is Becoming NSW’s First Beachside Special Entertainment Precinct This Week

Cronulla’s after-dark scene is getting a boost, with the beachside suburb set to become home to NSW’s first coastal Special Entertainment Precinct from Friday, 4 September 2026.

The new Cronulla Special Entertainment Precinct (SEP) will kick off as a 12-month trial, designed to give local bars, restaurants and entertainment venues more flexibility to operate after dark while balancing the needs of residents.

It’s part of the NSW Government’s broader Vibrancy Reforms, which are steadily reshaping nightlife precincts across the state.

What Is The Cronulla Special Entertainment Precinct?

Rather than regulating individual venues in isolation, the SEP introduces a precinct-wide approach to trading hours, entertainment and sound management across Cronulla town centre.

Businesses within the designated area will have greater flexibility around operating hours, while a new management framework establishes specific requirements around noise and other after-hours activity.

The idea is to make it easier for live music, dining, bars and nightlife to thrive alongside Cronulla’s existing daytime and beach culture.

The precinct officially launches on 4 September 2026, following community consultation on its draft Precinct Management Plan and Development Control Plan earlier this year.

Throughout the 12-month trial, Sutherland Shire Council will work with a Precinct Working Group made up of local businesses, residents, artists and NSW Police to monitor how the new approach operates.
