Sunnyboy Espresso and Elk Espresso have both dropped their new summer menus, and the sibling cafes are leaning all the way into peak Gold Coast energy: bright, colourful and unapologetically delicious. At Sunnyboy, expect sunny-day crowd-pleasers like mango oats loaded with fresh fruit and housemade granola, a passionfruit pavlova French toast that borders on dessert, and summer scrambled eggs topped with ricotta, hazelnuts and basil oil.

Elk is bringing its own heat with fresh, zingy breakfast sashimi on sourdough, Thai-inspired scrambled eggs and its already-buzzing matcha cloud. Both cafes are olling out new sips—think iced pistachio matcha, brown sugar iced lattes and other cooling, summery pours made for lingering.

And because festive season waits for no one, word is a Christmas cold brew crowned with a gingerbread cloud is about to land. Consider your summer brunch roster officially sorted.

The Langham Gold Coast has officially launched its Festive Afternoon Tea, and it's every bit the elegant Christmas moment you'd expect from the iconic Palm Court. Served on a classic three-tier stand, the menu leans into refined seasonal indulgence with bites like smoked trout and caviar quiche, duck parfait crostini and delicate tarte fines.

The sweets are the real show-stealers—from the chocolate and hazelnut Rudolph Christmas cake to pistachio-matcha sablés and a silky black forest entremet layered with wild summer berry gel. Of course, there’ll be warm scones too, arriving with velvet cream, lemon curd and raspberry preserves, because Christmas is all about the little luxuries.

At $95 per person, it’s the perfect way to enjoy a decadent yet festive affair, with the option of a bubbles upgrade. It is the silly season, after all.

Husk Distillery Launches New Summer Menu At Planter’s Kitchen

Planter’s Kitchen has unveiled a brand-new summer menu, marking Head Chef Suchada Williams’ first full seasonal offering. After months of rethinking the guest experience, the kitchen has emerged with an exciting menu built on produce from Husk’s own gardens and infused with the chef’s Thai heritage.

Expect fresh, colourful plates designed to play harmoniously with Husk Rum, like smashed cucumber salad with homegrown ginger, roasted sesame and black vinegar, or grass-fed braised beef slow-cooked in an aromatic ginger caramel stock. Naturally, there’s a new summer cocktail list too, including a wildly fun and intriguing Caramello Old Fashioned made with Husk ACR rum infused with Caramello Koalas. As if we needed another excuse to pop down to Husk Distillery.

Burleigh's much-loved Paloma Wine Bar—arguably the Gold Coast's most popular wine bar—has just launched their new summer menu and it's absolutely worth visiting for. Before we go any further, yes, their cult-fave Wednesday Burger Night and OG Steak & Frites aren't going anywhere. Phew.

Designed for lazy, sun-filled afternoons, the menu stars a mixture of favourites (yes, Burleigh Baker bread and caramelised butter) and new dishes. Cacio e pepe arancini, smoked burrata with confit tomato, and Wagyu skewers are just some of plates we've got our eyes on. And of course there's some new cocktails on the menu too like the You Beudi Coconut Marg, Midsummer (tequila, jalapeno pickle juice, cucumber and elderflower) and White Dove (gin, fresh basil and lemon juice). We'll see you there.

Gelato Messina’s Mega Christmas Trifle Is Back—And It’s An Absolute Unit

messina trifle
Image credit: Gelato Messina | Website

In news you’ll want to clear the freezer for, Messina's back to deliver their signature Christmas chaos in the form of a massive sugar hit. Their legendary Christmas Coma trifle is back for 2025, and this year it’s joined by a brand new bauble that’s smaller in size, but not in flavour.

Starting with the main event, the Christmas Coma is a monster gelato-based trifle. Picture layers of passionfruit sorbet, strawberry gelato, baked cheesecake, passionfruit cheesecake mousse, vanilla chantilly, Italian meringue, raspberry-jam Swiss roll and raspberry jelly, all of which comes with a litre of Messina brandy custard. Clocking in at $250, this hefty trifle will feed 20-30 according to Messina, but we’ll let you be the judge.

Then there’s the new kid on the block. The Pistachio Christmas Bauble is a brand new showstopper that’s basically edible art. Crack open a glossy milk chocolate shell and you’ll find pistachio praline, pistachio crunch, pistachio gelato and a swirl of white chocolate mousse, and at $150 you can feed a crowd of 8-10. Even better? Order both and get a cheeky $50 discount.

Both can be pre-ordered here and believe us, these will sell out fast. Check the Messina website here for pick up options—on the Gold Coast it's pick up Friday 19-Wednesday 24 December from the Surfers Paradise location.

Meet Costa Agave—The New Spirit From The Costa Taco Crew

Australia’s agave scene has a new hero, and it’s coming straight from the founders of Costa Taco. Meet Costa Agave; a first-of-its-kind spirit crafted in Oaxaca with local producers, blending mezcal’s depth with tequila’s clarity.

Born from a trip that led Costa co-founder Nick Stanley deep into Oaxaca’s mezcal heartland, Costa Agave isn’t just another bottle—it’s the result of late nights with local producers, centuries-old traditions, and a recipe refined over shared meals and conversations. The Stanley brothers partnered with Santiago Matatlán distiller Diago to create something that honours agave’s roots while reimagining it for a new generation of drinkers.

The result? A complex yet approachable drop that shines in a margarita without the heavy, divisive smoke. Officially recognised under the 'agave spirits; category, Costa Agave bridges two worlds: soulful, ritual-rich mezcal heritage and tequila’s clean, refined techniques.

For now, you’ll only find it where it belongs—at Costa Taco’s Broadbeach, Palm Beach (soon-to-be Burleigh Heads) and Byron Bay venues—poured Costa style, alongside tacos and community vibes.

Crafted by Norté Chef Rudy Malinverni, the three-course line-up is all about bold flavours, championing premium local produce and the art of the long lunch (yes, it's an art) . Pair it with curated Latin American-inspired cocktails or go all-in with an optional $99 bottomless beverages package (you know you want to).

Cape Byron Distillery (aka the home of Brookie's Gin) has officially taken top honours with Australia’s highest awarded single malt whisky after a landmark blind tasting conducted by National LIquor News. The tasting featured whiskies from more than 20 distilleries across the country—but Cape Byron stood out with two exceptional releases claiming the highest scores.

The Mac. Liqueur Cask Single Malt impressed with its golden, indulgent profile of marmalade, buttery macadamia and nutty shortbread, while the Serendipity Peated Single Malt delivered with notes of lemon meringue, roasted nuts and gingerbread. This huge milestone cements Cape Byron’s position among the leading names in Australian whisky. Plus, they're currently running a 15% off Father's Day Sale...just saying.

An Upscale Teppanyaki Spot Is Opening In Sanctuary Cove Next Month

Sanctuary Cove’s dining scene is about to level up with the arrival of Kuroki, a sleek new teppanyaki restaurant opening in the Marine Village this September.

Brought to life by team behind Kamikaze Teppanyaki, Superwok, and Bam Bam Korean Fried Chicken & Beer, Kuroki promises a bold, modern take on fire-fuelled Japanese cuisine.

The name translates to 'black wood', and that understated elegance threads through everything from the interiors (think moody lanterns and sculptural timber details) to the menu. Expect a line-up of Japanese favourites elevated with precision and flair; from sizzling teppanyaki cooked right before your eyes, to sukiyaki, bento boxes, and refined a la carte plates.

“Kuroki embodies the spirit of omotenashi, where every gesture is purposeful, every detail
considered, and every guest treated as an honoured guest,” co-owner Kevin said. “We wanted to
create more than a dining experience. At Kuroki, teppanyaki becomes a modern ritual of
calm, connection, and craftsmanship."

Mini Martinis Are Shaking Their Way Into Lobby Bar

A few months ago, our Urban List Gold Coast Editor predicted that mini martinis were about to have a moment, and it looks like Lobby Bar at The Langham Gold Coast is ahead of the curve with these limited edition tiny-tinis.

Take your pick from the 'Ode To Duke's' if you're after something dry and citrusy, the 'Surf The Turf' with bittersweet licorice notes or the 'Moneypenny'  with hibiscus cordial if floral and tart flavours are more your thing. These Mini Martini Moments can be purchased individually for just $12 each, or you can grab the trio for $30—it would be rude not to, really.

Lobby Bar has a seasonally focused menu that champions fresh, local produce, and live music every Friday and Saturday night to boot, in case killer cocktails and luxe ambience aren’t enough of a pull. Mar-tinys, half-tinis, whatever tickles your tini, these little wonders are equal parts cute and delicious, so naturally, we’re obsessed.

Burleigh Brewing Teams Up With Czech Beer Royalty For A Lager First

Beer lovers, this is big. The Czech Republic’s legendary Budvar has picked Burleigh Brewing for its first-ever Aussie collaboration, and the result is a crisp, traditional Czech-style lager called Czech Mates. Now rolling out nationally in bottle shops, and fresh from the taps at Burleigh, it’s crafted with the time-honoured double decoction mashing method and matured for eight weeks, resulting in smooth, malty perfection.

But the real story lies in how you pour it. Forget the no-head rule—Czechs embrace the foam with three signature styles. There’s the mlíko, a glass that’s 99% foam and drunk in one sweet, creamy gulp; the šnyt, with two fingers of beer and three fingers of foam; and the hladinka, a classic pour with about one-third foam on top.

It might look strange, but trust us, it’s the real deal, and it’s delicious. Want to try it for yourself? Head to Burleigh Brewing Company’s taproom and order like a true Czech.

A secret five-year collaboration between Northern Rivers icons Husk Distillery and Stone & Wood Brewing Co.? Consider us intrigued. What started as a backyard brainwave (plus one Scottish whisky legend and a thousand litres of wort) has turned into Sidetrack Stone Whisky—a smoky, chocolatey, rum-barrel-aged stunner.

Brewed with a custom version of Stone Beer and aged in ex-Husk Rum barrels, this rich, malty drop is the first whisky ever from the rum-first crew at Husk. Only 2,000 bottles exist, and they’re not making more. It’s a one-off, a detour, and frankly, a delicious distraction. Husk's first-ever whisky is available here for $85 a bottle.

Global DJ, Gold Coast local and all-round legend Paul Fisher is swapping the decks for design, unveiling plans for a seriously luxe new apartment development in Palm Beach—and yes, it’s as coastal cool as you’d expect.

Teaming up with his wife Chloe Fisher, their YLB Property Developments crew, design firm BDA Architects and Gold Coast builder HNKN, Pescado is a $50 million eight-level project set to bring seven ultra-luxury residences to Palmy's Jefferson Lane strip.

Inspired by their time spent living (and partying) in places like Ibiza and LA, but grounded in their deep love for Palm Beach, the Fishers have carefully designed Pescado to feel like the ultimate beachside escape. Darren Greenaway, Director of BDA Architects, said the wave-like façade was deliberately designed to reflect the transition from chaos to calm, with the architecture symbolising a journey from the noise of daily life into a private sanctuary.

The Fishers will be occupying the top two-floor penthouse and the remaining six full-floor residences have prices starting from $5.25 million.
