Meet Costa Agave—The New Spirit From The Costa Taco Crew
Image Credit: Costa Agave | Supplied
Australia’s agave scene has a new hero, and it’s coming straight from the founders of Costa Taco. Meet Costa Agave; a first-of-its-kind spirit crafted in Oaxaca with local producers, blending mezcal’s depth with tequila’s clarity.
Born from a trip that led Costa co-founder Nick Stanley deep into Oaxaca’s mezcal heartland, Costa Agave isn’t just another bottle—it’s the result of late nights with local producers, centuries-old traditions, and a recipe refined over shared meals and conversations. The Stanley brothers partnered with Santiago Matatlán distiller Diago to create something that honours agave’s roots while reimagining it for a new generation of drinkers.
The result? A complex yet approachable drop that shines in a margarita without the heavy, divisive smoke. Officially recognised under the 'agave spirits; category, Costa Agave bridges two worlds: soulful, ritual-rich mezcal heritage and tequila’s clean, refined techniques.
For now, you’ll only find it where it belongs—at Costa Taco’s Broadbeach, Palm Beach (soon-to-be Burleigh Heads) and Byron Bay venues—poured Costa style, alongside tacos and community vibes.

Burleigh Brewing Teams Up With Czech Beer Royalty For A Lager First
Image Credit: Burleigh Brewing Company | Supplied
Beer lovers, this is big. The Czech Republic’s legendary Budvar has picked Burleigh Brewing for its first-ever Aussie collaboration, and the result is a crisp, traditional Czech-style lager called Czech Mates. Now rolling out nationally in bottle shops, and fresh from the taps at Burleigh, it’s crafted with the time-honoured double decoction mashing method and matured for eight weeks, resulting in smooth, malty perfection.
But the real story lies in how you pour it. Forget the no-head rule—Czechs embrace the foam with three signature styles. There’s the mlíko, a glass that’s 99% foam and drunk in one sweet, creamy gulp; the šnyt, with two fingers of beer and three fingers of foam; and the hladinka, a classic pour with about one-third foam on top.
It might look strange, but trust us, it’s the real deal, and it’s delicious. Want to try it for yourself? Head to Burleigh Brewing Company’s taproom and order like a true Czech.

It’s good news for the contingent who are known to frequent Surfers Paradise (you know who you are and there’s no shame) as the debut Wendy's venue will be opening in Paradise Centre on Cavill Avenue.
Officially opening on Wednesday 15 January this opening is the first of 200 Wendy’s restaurants set to open in Australia. If you’re not in the know, Wendy’s slings square-pattied burgers and their signtaure dishes are the Baconator and their Spicy Chicken Sandwich (which is also a burger, but you know, ‘Murica). The showstopper for Wendy’s Down Under is going to be their hand-breaded chicken tenders, crafted especially for us—Wendy’s you shouldn’t have. Stay tuned for more updates.

The lauded Three Blue Ducks and Hotel Brunswick are unveiling ‘The Ducks at Hotel Brunswick’ this December, a Northern Rivers culinary collaboration bringing together famous pub hospitality and the Ducks’ culinary prowess.
Known for their commitment to sustainability and ethically sourced ingredients, Ducks’ chefs Darren Robertson and Andy Allen have joined forces with Hotel Brunswick’s Head Chef Loki Lynch and Group General Manager of Food, Ben Turner, launching an elevated pub menu that champions local Northern Rivers produce.
Think quintessential Aussie pub classics like the humble schnitzel, chicken parmys, and beer-battered fish and chips—levelled up with a Ducks twist, of course—alongside more refined dishes like Australian bay lobster rolls, pickled octopus and prawn toast with nam jim. There will also be a new pizza oven pumping out loaded pizzas and flatbreads, perfect for pairing with a brew on a summer’s afternoon. The drinks menu gets an upgrade too, with an expanded offering of 30 wines, a spotlight on local cult-favourite Jilly Wines and three margarita varieties.
Hotel Brunswick Head Chef, Loki Lynch, expresses his excitement: "This collaboration allows us to honour the laid-back, classic pub experience our guests love, while introducing fresh, tasty dishes that showcase great Australian produce and reflect the essence of the Northern Rivers.
“It’s the perfect blend of tradition and the evolution of this much-loved coastal pub. We can’t wait for locals and visitors to experience The Ducks at Hotel Brunswick,” he said.

If there's one thing the Gold Coast is best known for, it might be its laidback, coastal lifestyle. If you could bottle that very essence up, it might just be Solento Tequila. Solento is dervied from the Spanish translation of 'slow sun' and is all about appreciating the ritual of slowing down and being present—which is exactly why we know Solento Tequila is going to be a Gold Coast hit.
Officially launching on the Gold Coast in April, Solento Tequila is founded by acclaimed filmmaker Taylor Steele and is an award-winning certified organic tequila range, grown on a single Mexican estate in small batches. Read: yes, it's damn good. The decision to bring Solento Tequila to the Gold Coast was driven by Steele's confidence in the Coast's growing tequila market and its alignment with Solento's commitment to quality, authenticity, and the joy of life's simple pleasures.
Solento’s core range includes, Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo and is available for purchase online, nationwide at Dan Murphy’s and selected BSW stores. We recommend it best enjoyed neat or over ice with a slice of lemon.
