To say it’s been a big year for Harry Garside would be an understatement. The young Aussie has recently returned to Australia after competing in lightweight boxing at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
While being a boxer requires obvious physical strength, the mental component is just as important, both in and out of the ring. When facing such an enormous amount of pressure, keeping a cool head is essential. As we all know, one way to help bolster mental health is to get a good night’s sleep. Garside – who started boxing when he was nine – credits his time spent practising meditation and breathwork with helping him develop his mental strength. Now, he wants to help share that experience with others.
Recently, Garside co-hosted a night dedicated to calmness at the Breath Haus in Richmond, Melbourne. Alongside Breath Haus founder, Ella Pike, and supported by Swisse Wellness, the night gave guests the chance to experience the power of breathwork through a “Long – Slow – Deep (LSD)” class.
By experiencing a breathwork session first-hand, the aim is to give guests a better understanding of how breathwork can affect their sense of mindfulness and, hopefully, help improve their sleep.
Garside understands the importance of a good night’s rest. The champion boxer has been a part of Swisse’s “Sleep Squad” since 2023 and has encouraged Australians to prioritise better, healthier sleeping habits.
Of course, there’s no one solution to improving your sleep. It’s important to try different approaches to find something that works for you. Whether that’s combining mindfulness techniques, like breathwork, or making a few changes to your lifestyle, like enjoying a relaxing tea or minimising the amount of blue light you’re experiencing before bed. Lowering how much doom-scrolling you’re doing on your phone every night can go a long way – your FYP will be there in the morning.
As part of its “Go the Swisse to Sleep” campaign, Swisse offers a range of products – tablets, gummies and powders – that are designed to help you get a better night’s rest. You can check out the Swisse sleep supplement range here.
