Boasting more than 40 members' clubs around the world, Soho House has long had Sydney in its sights. Now, after years of speculation, the global hospitality brand has officially confirmed it's coming—and we finally have an opening timeline.
Founded in London in 1995 as a members' club for creatives, Soho House has since expanded to cities including New York, Berlin, Barcelona and Hong Kong. Each location blends restaurants, bars, workspaces and wellness facilities with design that reflects its local neighbourhood.
Here's everything we know so far about Soho House Sydney.
When Is Soho House Sydney Opening?
Before their 8-day SXSW Sydney residency back in October 2023, Soho House announced that a “Soho House Sydney location will be opening in the coming years” on their official Instagram. But in true SH fashion, the details were slim.
Now, after teasing an Australian expansion for several years, Soho House has officially confirmed that its Sydney House will open in 2028, with the next phase of construction now underway.
The club will take over the landmark site at 256 Crown Street, Darlinghurst, just moments from Oxford Street and on the edge of Surry Hills. The building was previously home to Swillhouse venue Shady Pines Saloon before its closure in April 2025.
Development plans will transform the existing building into a five-level hospitality destination, with a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces designed exclusively for members and their guests.
What Will Soho House Sydney Include?
While full details are still under wraps, Soho House has confirmed the Sydney venue will feature:
- A rooftop space
- Multiple bars
- Club spaces
- A dedicated cabaret venue
- Indoor and outdoor areas spread across five levels
Earlier development applications also outlined plans for wellness facilities, including a gym, day spa and rooftop pool, though Soho House is yet to confirm which of these features will be included when the club opens.
Can You Apply For Soho House Sydney Yet?
Not yet. Applications for Soho House Sydney memberships have not opened, with the company confirming they'll launch closer to the opening date.
In the meantime, Sydneysiders can still join the local Soho House community through a Cities Without Houses membership. Available in cities without a permanent House, the membership provides access to curated events, dinners, cultural programming and networking opportunities, as well as reciprocal access to Soho Houses when travelling internationally.
Previous Sydney events have included chef collaborations, fashion gatherings and pool parties, giving local members a taste of what's to come before the permanent House opens its doors.
With construction now progressing and an opening locked in for 2028, Soho House Sydney is officially no longer a rumour—just one of the city's most anticipated hospitality openings still a couple of years away.
