Sydney Olympic Park is set for a major evolution. The NSW Government has released its final Master Plan 2050, outlining a long-term vision to transform the precinct into a mixed-use hub for living, working and entertainment—while maintaining its legacy as one of the city’s key sporting destinations.

Over the next 25 years, the plan will guide the delivery of thousands of new homes, jobs and green spaces, reshaping the area into a fully-fledged community.

Here’s what’s planned.

How Many Homes Are Planned For Sydney Olympic Park

Housing is a major focus of the new plan.

The Master Plan increases the number of homes planned for the precinct to 15,000 in total, including up to 13,000 new dwellings.

A portion of these homes will be allocated as affordable housing, with targets set across both government and privately owned land.

The aim is to create a community where more people can live close to jobs, transport and essential services—something that’s becoming increasingly important across Sydney’s growing population.

New Jobs, Retail And Entertainment Precinct Plans

Alongside housing, the plan significantly expands employment and lifestyle opportunities.

The precinct is expected to support up to 26,000 jobs, with growth driven by new commercial, cultural and innovation-focused spaces.

Sydney Olympic Park will continue to operate as a major sports and entertainment hub, while also introducing more retail, dining and nightlife offerings.

A proposed Special Entertainment Precinct is also part of the vision, aimed at strengthening the area’s after-dark economy and making it a more vibrant destination beyond major events.

Parks, Green Space And Community Facilities

Green space remains central to the precinct’s identity. The plan protects and enhances around 430 hectares of public open space, while introducing:

  • 10 new playgrounds
  • 9 new outdoor public spaces
  • 4 new sports fields

There are also plans for a cultural centre, library, community hub and sports facilities, alongside dedicated land for future schools.

Environmental guidelines released alongside the plan aim to build on Sydney Olympic Park’s sustainability legacy, with a focus on increasing tree canopy, protecting biodiversity and enhancing wetlands and parklands.

How Sydney Olympic Park Will Be Connected

Future growth will be supported by major transport upgrades already underway.

Key infrastructure projects include:

  • Sydney Metro West
  • Parramatta Light Rail extension
  • Upgrades to surrounding road networks

The plan also prioritises improved walking and cycling connections, making it easier for residents and visitors to move through the precinct.

Together, these upgrades are designed to support a more connected, accessible and sustainable community as the area continues to grow.
