The idea of going out and even driving to venues when it's a little colder outside can sometimes feel like a bit of effort, especially when you’re just trying to find a cosy spot to unwind. Add to that the challenge of picking somewhere with the right warm, inviting atmosphere—comfortable enough to settle into, with food and drinks that genuinely hit the spot and make the trip feel worth it.

But lucky for you and your motivation to leave the couch this chilly season, American Express delicious Month Out is back. A month-long celebration of dining that’ll give eligible Amex Card Members an exclusive Offer for the entirety of May*.

Even better, our editors have taken the guesswork out of the equation and picked the standouts, so all you have to do is book, rock up and enjoy your evening.

2KW

2 King William Street, Adelaide

Sky-high in Adelaide’s CBD is the place to be, especially when it’s at 2KW,  the city’s best bar for views, delicious treats and drinks. Located on the eighth floor with knockout scenes of the Adelaide Oval and St. Peter’s Cathedral, this rooftop bar-meets-restaurant serves up succulent seafood, sizzling skewers and seasonal share plates, all ready and willing to be enjoyed with a stellar lineup of signature cocktails and over 800 bottles of wine.

Speaking of vino, Thursday evenings at 2KW are now called French at Five, a once-a-month wine happy hour in a relaxed space to try some good French wines on a rooftop.

Leigh Street Wine Room

Summer holiday budget not big enough for a trip to Italy this year? Leigh Street Wine Room might just be the next best thing to your cosy and cool Milanese bar escape. From the bar’s long stretch of bartop and arched ceiling, to walls lined with art and wine bottles (the list has over 400), you can’t look past the Euro-Australian food either.

Hero dishes include the juicy magra lamb shoulder and the eggplant parmigiana, with the oh-so-rich chicken liver parfait with plum and rhubarb jam on brioche as the perfect starter to share. The flavour of the Old Continent is delivered to your dinner plate, and date, all in the heart of Adelaide.

Bank Street Social

48 Hindley Street, Adelaide

Deep underground in Adelaide’s bustling CBD, Bank Street Social is one of the city’s best hidden venues for cosy  vibes, matched with an onsite DJ, and great food and drink. The menu is largely stone-cooked pizza (ain’t a bad thing) made using regionally-inspired flavours from some of the state’s best gourmet food suppliers.

And you’re not without choice for drinks: plenty of local craft beer and wine, and a back bar filled with premium gins and whisky, means you’ll stay hydrated

Cry Baby Bar

Self-confessors of “good times”, Cry Baby is a souped-up dive bar in Adelaide's West End, known for its loud rock 'n' roll music, a crazy amount of spirits and a 12-tap Australian craft beer selection that’ll impress your fussiest date. Lit up by a neon pink sign, it’s not just the lighting that’s bang-on in recreating a cosy retro escape for your next date night: the bar also boasts an ice-breaker-worthy pool table and a jukebox filled with bangers from the ‘60s through to the ‘80s, the perfect setup for a boogie. Did we mention the Pumpkin Spiced Latte Stout and Lemondrop, Lime and Bitters Saison? These two tipples are must orders along some crispy bar snacks.

Africola

4 East Terrace, Adelaide

Hands down one of the most popular restaurants—and date night options—in Adelaide, Africola puts a contemporary spin on African cuisine. Think wood-fired meats, vegetables, pickles and bread. Newbies should try signature dishes like the chicken skin tea sandwich, whole roasted cauliflower, and peri-peri chicken, or let the Chef lead the way with his seasonal set menu. Wash all the delish food down with classic yet fun cocktails, natural wines, and pig-fat-washed whiskey.

Electra

31 King William Street, Adelaide

Electra has had a glow-up in recent years, and it certainly isn’t lost on us. The veritable Adelaide foodie establishment now has multiple spaces that riff on a New York loft, with a dimly-lit bar downstairs that’s perfect for a cosy catch up. As for the food, you'll find some of the city’s best Asian fusion dishes. Think sweet spicy pork belly, and modern Australian classics like their unmatched chicken schnitty. Meanwhile, Saturdays are now boasting two hours of bottomless drinks and light snacks from 3pm.

Orso

36 Kensington Road, Rose Park

Orso is your little slice of Mediterranean style and comfort in Adelaide’s charming Rose Park. With a focus on shared plates, the restaurant’s vibrant atmosphere is the perfect spot to enjoy the likes of Josper-fired quail, morrel mushroom, cavolo nero, beetroot, sage and mushroom jus. Yum.

Parwana

124B Henley Beach Rd, Torrensville

Parwana is an authentic Afghan restaurant opened in 2009. A family-run favourite, their approach to food keeps their history and culture alive on Aussie soil.

With every dish made from love and the desire to connect, this Middle Eastern eatery is the perfect date night spot with colourful interiors and thought-provoking art. And then there’s the food. Stand-outs include Ashak (fried dumplings stuffed with chives and topped with a lamb mince) and Kabuli Palaw (aged long-grain rice topped with caramelised carrots, sultanas, almonds and pistachios). The only thing left to do is treat your tastebuds to this culinary gem.

Honeydripper

11 Frome St, Adelaide

A hi-fi luxury concept cocktail bar, Honeydripper is, without a doubt, one of the coolest bars in town. In the mezzanine Hi-Fi lounge you’ll find a gold-lit space with wood panelling and a centrepiece DJ deck behind the bar, framed by a wall of vintage vinyl. The experience is all about detail and atmosphere, from the music to the design to the drinks themselves. Cocktails are ordered via a trading-card-style menu, where each card features flavour notes, a photo, and a suggested song pairing—like a Filthy Martini with Summer Breeze by Gotts Street Park & Rosie Lowe. To round it out, there are fries and a selection of elevated bar snacks and nibbles, making it the perfect place to graze, linger, listen, and take it all in.

Pinco Italo

50 Exchange Place, Adelaide

Set inside a refined nostalgic setting, it’s the cutest date spot with cute white table cloths, artsy walls and a live jazz band on certain nights, so do your research before you book.
