Whether you want to chill beachside or hit the city nightlife, there’s always a warm welcome at these Adelaide faves.

Africola

4 East Terrace, Adelaide, 5000

Two plates of food in dark lightingAcclaimed Chef Duncan Welgemoed brings more than the farm to the table at Africola. This trailblazing spot has been setting the bar for explosive, inventive flavour in Adelaide’s food scene. Africola’s cuisine is inspired by South Africa and beyond, a continental African journey seasoned with woodfire and ferments, smoke and spice, busting out of the open plan kitchen. The crispy chicken tea sandwich with peri peri drippings alone is a legend worth seeking out.

Conveniently located in Adelaide’s East End, the ground-floor restaurant is bright and vibrant, filled with music and diners spread through low tables in the dining room and across the al fresco terrace. Nip around back for the step-free accessible bathroom.

Insider Intel:

  • This is one of those ‘where the chefs eat’ spots, so you know it’s top tier. Keep your eyes peeled for celeb visitors.

  • In an unusual twist for BBQ, veg is given an equal role in Africola’s seasonal menu. All flavour, less meat sweats.

Fugazzi

27 Leigh St, Adelaide, 5000

Plate of macaroni with chill on a spoonFind the classic grandeur of New York Italian dining down one of Adelaide’s trendy CBD laneways. Fugazzi’s main ramp entrance leads into the long, elegant bar and side dining room of low booths. It’s all exquisite marble tops, mid-century Italian glamour and striking black features.

This stylish and warm welcome sets the tone for a special visit that's cut above your neighbourhood joint. Start with ‘Roman Vegemite’ (i.e. anchovy) toast or the pillowy, ever Instagrammable whipped ricotta and honey gnocchi fritto, share a pappardelle with braised duck or a luxurious lobster alla maccheroni alfredo, maybe splurge on a wood grilled sirloin with green pepper corn sauce and fries and pair the experience with an Italian vino. Is this the most stylishly decorated accessible bathroom in Adelaide? Quite probably.

Insider Intel:

  • Do not skip a chance to try their cocktails, they make a killer savoury martini, with a host of seasonal house specialties and mastery of the classics.

  • Prefer a less sweet finale to the feast? Curd nerds will want to check out the Daily Cheese, selected for a solo cheese platter.
