Life on the bayside is synonymous with strolls down the foreshore, with big plans in the works giving Wynnum, Manly and Lota a fresh new look to pair with their natural views.

A draft 20-year plan has been unveiled, covering eight kilometres of waterfront and 15 parks from Wynnum Creek to Lota. It’s shaped by more than 1,460 pieces of feedback collected from residents last year, who asked for better water access, more swimming opportunities and improved shade without impacting the natural beauty of the area.

So, what does it look like? The  Wynnum Wading Pool will be transformed into a new sand beach pool with deck areas. Manly is getting a new waterplay and parkour park, plus a new jetty, mangrove boardwalk and kayak launch facilities.

Pandanus Beach will also be expanded and replenished, 40 years after it was first created and there will be new picnic shelters, seating and barbecues along the foreshore.

The draft plan is designed to complement the Wynnum Centre Suburban Renewal Precinct Plan, which aims to create a vibrant community heart while embracing the bayside’s character. It will build on improvements that have already been delivered at Bayside Park, Breakwater Park and Lota Camping Reserve, as well as the $1.2 million playground upgrade near the Wynnum Wading Pool that was launched last year.

"The community has already identified the Wynnum Wading Pool as an area that they would want to see upgraded, so we're hoping to kick start selected projects as soon as we can,” said Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner.

“This plan is about protecting the bayside lifestyle locals know and love, while giving families even more reasons to get outdoors and enjoy this incredible part of Brisbane.”
