If you’ve been traipsing the city in search of epic Curiocity art installations over the last two weeks, you’ll be thrilled to hear that another massive outdoor art exhibition is coming along hot on its heels, this one designed to be enjoyed after dark.
Heading for the City Botanic Gardens in May is Botanica—Contemporary Art Outside, a huge display of immersive art installations that will light up the gardens with projections and performances. Now in its third year (after a hiatus in 2021), Botanica will feature the works of nine incredible artists, including Hiromi Tango, Simone Eisler, Georgie Pinn, Esem Projects, Charlotte Haywood, Jenna Lee, Kellie O’Dempsey, Paul Bai and Georgia Hillas. You can scope out what they’ll be creating for the exhibition here—personally we’re looking forward to seeing Hiromi Tango’s ‘Heartbeat’ light up the kiosk with a rainbow of lights.
The full program of events is yet to be released (you can expect that sometime in April), but what we know you can expect is some seriously eye-catching pieces, not to mention artists workshops, guided tours, micro-projections, mindfulness activities and live drawing performances. There will also be live music, food trucks and even a pop-up bar to make the most of.
Botanica will be taking over the gardens from 7–16 May, and you can keep an eye on the Brisbane City Council’s website for more information closer to the date.
