In case you missed it, one of the world's coolest boutique hotel chains landed in Brisbane earlier this year, with Hotel Indigo bringing their eclectic style to the city.  Australia’s second Hotel Indigo (the first being Adelaide’s pink-hued stunner) the Brisbane location is an achingly hip boutique stay which encompasses 212 rooms, a Japanese restaurant, Izakaya Publico, and even a speakeasy bar, dubbed 1603.

Perfectly located for a business trip or a city escape at 35 Turbot Street, the hotel is within walking distance of Roma Street Station, the Queen Street Mall and even South Brisbane just across the bridge. Enter via the giant red doors on Burnett Lane and you’ll find interiors inspired by Brisbane’s transformative stories, hidden artistic flair and eclectic characters. No two Hotel Indigos are the same, so even if you’ve stayed at one of the boutique brands around the world, you can expect a whole new experience here.

Murals painted by local artists adorn the hotel corridors, while the rooms themselves have faintly retro vibes, with deep blue feature walls, industrial lighting, pop-out desks and sleek tiled bathrooms. The standard queen rooms are sizeable, but there’s also the option of one bedroom suites for those in need of somewhere to lounge and dine, a necessity for longer stays.

Not that you'll want to eat in your room (although their is a tasty room service menu to enjoy), because as well as easy access to the CBD's many stellar cafes, restaurants and bars, the hotel has two incredible food and beverage options of it's own, Izakaya Publico and Bar 1608.

First up there's Bar 1603, a speakeasy with serious Tokyo laneway bar vibes. Here you can nibble on katsu sandos, pork gyoza and fried panko camembert while you sip sake, umeshu, creative cocktails, beer, and wine, or make a proper feast of it with pork belly and wagyu rump skewers, share plates from the robata grill menu and yakisoba noodles.

Then, through the bar and down a grand staircase is Izakaya Publico, a stuning hidden Japanese restaurant featuring soaring ceilings, massive leather booths and colourful murals adorning the walls. While they're still refinining their offering here in anticipation of a spring opening, you'll find a buffet breakfast served up down here of a morning to get you started for the day.
