InterContinental’s First Brisbane Hotel Is Getting A Luxurious Multi-Million Dollar Transformation
When InterContinental made its River City debut in July last year and took over the old Hilton in the CBD, we knew it wouldn’t be long before they honed their world-class elegance into the 319-room hotel. Well, folks, that time has come and it looks like a luxurious multi-million dollar transformation across the landmark heritage building.
InterContinental Brisbane will embark on an ambitious renovation project from October 2026 to late 2027, echoing its subtropical surroundings with an emphasis on comfort, sophistication and timelessness.
The sweeping overhaul will bring the room count up to 324, where you’ll find mid-century style and rich colour schemes embodied in warm neutrals, geometric patterns and sculptural art. Each room will have a view dowe to the grand atrium, which will be reworked to celebrate Brisbane’s natural light.

Drag yourself away from your room and you’ll be rewarded with a state-of-the-art gym, spa and wellness offering, plus a reimagined pool deck area that reflects Brisbane’s connection to outdoor living. Visitors and locals alike will enjoy the new Argentinian grill restaurant and intimate Italian pasta and wine bar. These dining offerings will be complemented by a lobby bar curated to be one of the hotel’s signature destinations.
Meanwhile, Level 6 will welcome an all-new concierge gallery with an upgraded arrival area, lobby and reception, as well as Club InterContinental: an exclusive sanctuary overlooking the Queen Street Mall and premium Edward Street precinct.

There’s a key part of the building that will remain the same, and that’s Harry Seidler’s unmistakable legacy. The celebrated architect whose modernist touch defined the address will be honoured throughout the refurbishment, according to global design firm Woods Bagot who were also behind InterContinental Sydney and InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach.
“InterContinental Brisbane presented an opportunity to celebrate and evolve the building’s architectural legacy; creating a hotel experience that feels contemporary and yet remains true to the integrity of its original design,” said Woods Bagot Principal Tracey Wiles. “Seidler’s legacy provided a framework for both clarity and rigour, while Brisbane’s subtropical character allowed us to overlay warmth, lightness and a sense of ease, resulting in an experience that is sophisticated, welcoming and distinctly modern.”

The hotel will remain open throughout the renovation, before becoming a new landing point for luxury travellers who want the heart of the CBD at their doorstep.
“This transformation marks a defining new chapter for InterContinental Brisbane and will set a new benchmark for luxury hospitality in the city,” said general manager Shaun Parson. “Our vision is to reimagine this local icon while paying homage to the iconic Harry Seidler building, bringing together exceptional design, approachable luxury and culturally rich experiences that reflect Brisbane’s vibrant spirit.”
