Every Reason You Should Go to Opera Queensland’s Newest Show, La Traviata

By Renée Ardon-Coppinger

6th Jul 2022

There’s nothing more civilised than a night of champagne, fine dining and the opera. Lucky for us, the good people at Opera Queensland have date night sorted when the glorious La Traviata opera comes QPAC's Lyric Theatre next month for two weeks only.

La Traviata follows the tale of Italian party girl Violetta—a charming young woman who weaves her magic on any man in her sights. That is until she meets Alfredo, who she falls head over heels with before the realisation hits that the world around them is against their love. Passionate, intense and heartbreaking, this much-adored opera has gained global accolades since its premiere and transports its audience into a world of forbidden opulence.

A co-production between powerhouses Opera Queensland, State Opera South Australia and West Australian Opera—you know you're in for a treat. Between the incredible musical scores from Giuseppe Verdi, one of the world’s most celebrated opera composers, and the creative genius of conductor Dame Lam and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, you’ll be moved by the unfolding of this thrilling romance gone sour.

To add to your evening, the open-air Cascade Court, a stunning informal setting, houses the Bistro at QPAC. This restaurant and bar are perfect for a pre-show snack or post-show meal under the stars on a balmy Brisbane evening. The menu has a contemporary zesty Asian influence prioritising fresh seasonal produce - we recommend the Mooloolaba whiting, spiced duck larb and crispy Szechuan eggplant—yum. Complete with an extensive wine list and views of the stunning Brisbane River, it has all the makings of an unforgettable night out.

With a range of tickets suited to everyone’s budget starting from just $60, this show is perfect for your special someone, next crew outing or to treat the theatre lover in your life. You’ll instantly fall in love with these characters and their hopeless fates—be sure to book your tickets now to avoid having your own heart broken too!
