Paddington’s New Community-First Cafe Is Designed To Get The Creative Juices Flowing

The right cafe can be an integral part of your working day. Whether it’s the morning coffee before you open your inbox or posting up at a table when you need a break from the desk, a cafe visit can make or break your creative process which is why Paddington’s latest addition is more than welcome.

“Mesa Haus grew out of a desire to create a space that brings together a few things we love good coffee, thoughtful design, community and creativity,” said founder Trishia Mariano. 

“We wanted to create somewhere that feels a little more like a home than a traditional cafe. A place where you can grab your morning coffee, meet someone for a conversation, or simply spend some time around other creative people.”

In warm tones and natural materials, Mesa Haus strikes the balance between cafe and creative studio. You’ll be fuelled by the usual espresso-based suspects, as well as matcha, hojicha and tea. The considered offering will feature a selection of seasonal and specialty drinks, with cold foam additions including vanilla sea salt, ube and matcha.

Pastries will come from local legends Sprout Bakery with a rotating selection on hand, picked to pair perfectly with the brews. “We’re keeping the menu relatively focused so that we can do a small number of things really well,” said Mariano. “We wanted the food offering to complement the coffee rather than compete with it, so it will remain intentionally simple and considered.”

Mesa Haus is also home to an intimate co-working space open to all creatives, as well as a retail space with sister brand Mesa Collections.

“Mesa Haus is really about creating a space that can mean different things to different people,” said Mariano. “You might come in for a coffee and pastry, stay to work for a few hours, meet a friend for lunch, discover something in the retail space or come back for an event in the evening.”

“We’re excited to build it slowly and intentionally, and especially to see how the local creative community makes the space their own.”

Mesa Haus officially opens on 18 September at 33 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington.
