This New Lifestyle Precinct Needs To Be Your Next Fam Day Out—Here’s Why

By

Nailing a family day out that keeps the kids entertained? Tough. Making sure there's enough to keep the adults happy too? Even tougher. Luckily, Ipswich is here to answer our prayers with the flash new Nicholas Street Precinct. From a solid brekky fix to post-movie feeds, we've rounded up the best family-friendly spots to hit on your next fam outing.

miniBOUNCE

Catering to those aged six and under, miniBOUNCE is the perfect spot to let the kids get all their energy out in a fun and safe environment.

Every kid’s dream adventure playground, you'll find mini trampolines, a ball pit, a multi-level obstacle course, and a toddlers' area designed to keep littlies protected while still letting them get in on the fun. And yep, it's open from 8am every day.

Stellarossa

Prep for a day of running after the kids in the only appropriate way: good coffee. Stellarossa is open daily for breakfast and lunch, with a lineup of brunch classics and incredible sangas.

For the parents, go for the truffled mushies with poached eggs or a brekky crepe with smoked salmon. If the kiddos have a sweet tooth, treat them to the moppet’s pancakes—a triple stack with ice cream, fresh strawbs, and maple syrup.

General Public

General Public is your one-stop shop for a family day out. Think arcade games, ten-pin bowling, golf simulators, darts, and billiards.

Once you’ve worked up a healthy appetite bowling strikes and hitting bullseyes, you can grab a well-deserved feed. You’ll find all the family faves like schnittys and burgers for the grownups, plus a kids menu that hits every mood—like the “I don’t know” (fried chicken and fries) and “I’m not hungry” (mini margherita pizza).

Ipswich Children’s Library

As Australia’s only standalone library dedicated to children, Ipswich Children’s Library is a special place. Specifically for kids aged 12 and under, it hosts a specially curated catalogue of over 35,000 books.

It’s not just reading that’s on offer, with a stack of other activities for play and learning—including hands-on tech adventures and multi-reality interactive experiences. Parents can take a back seat and let the kids explore in a chilled environment while learning as they go. The best part? Membership is free.

HOYTS Ipswich

A classic weekend activity, it doesn’t get much better than a day at the movies. HOYTS Ipswich is a brand-new complex featuring six state-of-the-art cinemas, screening the latest box office releases.

Hot tip: join the HOYTS Rewards Members program to access $9 tickets to the HOYTS Little Stars sessions, where little ones can experience the magic of the movies for less. For a limited time, families of three or more can also nab tickets to any session for just $12 each.

That Dumpling Place

There’s no better spot for fam dinners at Nicholas Street than That Dumpling Place. Contrary to the name, this family-owned Chinese joint serves up more than just dumplings (although we won’t judge if you don’t venture out). Our advice? Go family style and mix it up with a couple of serves of pan-fried dumplings, plus the crispy kung pao chicken and egg fried rice.

Gelatissimo

Like any good feed, no family day out is complete without ice cream—and Nicholas Street Precinct has the goods over at Gelatissimo. Expect the old reliables like choc chip and honeycomb, plus deluxe flavours like pistachio white chocolate cremino and choccie hazelnut with crispy choc wafers.

Not in the mood for a cup or a cone? There's also donuts, waffles, and milkshakes to serve your sweet treat needs.
