Sunsets Rooftop Is Kangaroo Point’s Stunning New Mediterranean-Inspired Rooftop Bar

By Ranyhyn Laine – who always has time to go to breakfast, no matter how busy she is.

With Brisbane’s stellar line-up of restaurants, bars and even cafes, it’s rare that a new venue makes us gasp the first time we see it these days, but Kangaroo Point’s new rooftop bar had our jaws to the floor from the moment we stepped out of the elevator. Landing on the top floor of a residential tower in Linton Street, Sunsets Rooftop is an absolute stunner, and you’re going to want to be one of the first to check it out when they officially open their doors on 24 August.

It’s not just the desert-inspired interiors that will have you oohing and aahing—there’s also the location. On one side of the bar, you’ve got a bird’s eye view right into the Gabba—sports fanatics take note. On the other side, one of the best views of the city skyline in Brisbane, stretching all the way from Queen’s Wharf to the Valley—a truly astonishing sight, and THE new place to catch a sunset.

But onto the bar itself—because the views here are just the beginning. Sunsets Rooftop comes to us from the team behind Merci Event Space in Hawthorne, a boutique venue for everything from baby showers to engagement parties. It’s a family crew, involving several siblings and their partners—we won’t go into the family tree, but you can trust that a whole lot of love, sweat and tears have gone into the new addition to their portfolio.

The Mediterranean vibes here are strong, elicited by olive trees, terracotta pots, sandy tones and natural wood. There’s even a landscaped cacti garden at one end, so you can truly feel like you’re in a desert oasis as you sip on a coconut margarita, or one of their other equally refreshing cocktails.

On the eats side of things, the menu is a choose-your-own-adventure affair, whether you just want to snack on some light bites or settle in for a Mediterranean feast. If it’s the latter, start with small plates like baked brie with honey, chargrilled red pepper muhammara and fried cauliflower with tahini lemon sauce before moving onto proteins like the slow roasted lamb shoulder or marinated chicken skewers. And for dessert? Churros of course.

While they haven’t announced an opening date just yet, you will be able to check them out very soon. Check back here or just follow them on Instagram for updates—they’ll open Thursday to Sunday from 11am-10pm from 24 August.
