Your summer just got a Mediterranean upgrade with Fortitude Valley’s brand-new rooftop destination that’s lively, charming and delightfully sun-soaked. Sitting pretty on top of Ovolo The Valley, Above Rooftop & Bar is equal parts open-air retreat as it is a playful party scene with mezze plates, music and cocktails to carry you from golden hour to late-night rendezvous. 

The rooftop bar has been carefully curated to feel coastal yet simultaneously very Brisbane in tiled detailing, lush greenery and its free-spirited atmosphere. Open Wednesday to Sunday, you’re invited to kick back by the pool with a cocktail in hand—crafted by one of Australia’s most celebrated bartenders and founder of Distild, Jake Down. Leaning on bright and expressive flavours, you can expect the likes of pistachio, saffron, rose, lemon myrtle and desert lime mixed into your glass. Take Above’s signature, the Mirage, for example: a blend of Belvedere Vodka, passionfruit, rose water, and desert lime soda. 

On the food front, award-winning chef Justin North (Bécasse) and head chef Kya Knights have teamed up to create a menu that sits in the overlap of Australian-Mediterranean dining. Designed to be shared, you’ll be nibbling on stonebaked pita with linseed and garlic oil, old-school hummus drizzled with crunchy chilli oil, beetroot and bourghal spread, and kingfish ceviche with avocado and pickled cucumber. 

Effortless yet elevated, Above is a welcome addition to Brisbane’s all-star rooftop lineup, conveniently located in the vibrant 1000 Ann Street precinct. Bonus points if you swing by Bar Kazba downstairs for a halloumi doughnut beforehand.
