Aster + Lilou

The Verdict

If you’ve spent any time at Brisbane’s fashion markets, you’re probably familiar with Aster + Lilou. This local label has been doing upcycled and vintage fashion since before it was cool.

Now they’ve saved those thrift shop pennies and opened their first bricks and mortar boutique in the West End.

Aster + Lilou is the brainchild of Brisbane designer Zara Duffy. It started with pop-up stalls and market stands—a way for Zara to clear out her own personal vintage collection (which was reaching hoarder-esque levels). Slowly, market by market, the brand’s reputation grew, and Zara started upcycling and tailoring select vintage pieces, selling them alongside high-quality op-shop finds.

If slow fashion is your thing (and these days it probably should be), head down to Boundary Street and check out the store. There’s a range of vintage jewellery, accessories, summer and winter stock, 1970s glam and obscure thrift shop finds. All without the usual 'vintage boutique' mark-ups. 

Aster + Lilou is also home to Zara’s Clothing Bazaar—a monthly pop-up market for fellow designers and vintage sellers. Check Aster + Lilou’s Facebook page for upcoming market dates.
