Joining the epic line up of eateries on The Terrace at Queen’s Wharf, Azteca is a Latin America-inspired restaurant and bar that comes to us from the team behind Lina Rooftop, Soko Rooftop, Carmen Tequileria and Claw BBQ—and as with all of Potential Leisure’s venues, it’s a stunner.

Perched on the river side of The Terrace, meaning it benefits from some pretty epic views, the sleek and moody space has its own dedicated bar where you can sip on zesty cocktails and Brazilian-style caipirinhas before dinner—or just to check out the gorgeous, Aztec-inspired bar with it’s dark green geometric panelling.

If you’re sitting down to dinner, you’ll find yourself sitting under lush hanging greenery, either out on the breezy terrace or, if you’ve brought a big crew, in one of the huge circular booths that take centre stage. There’s also a private dining room available for groups of up to 10—take note for festive season.

As for what you’ll be eating, Head chef Zac Sykes, ex-Merivale and Rockpool, has designed a menu that fuses Latin American and Asian flavours. Intrigued? You should be—the unorthodox fusion means you’ll be dining on snacks like yellowfin tuna tacos, chicken liver parfait truffle churros, entrees of coral trout ceviche and cabbage skewers, and larger plates like crispy chicken with dark chocolate mole sauce and pork chop with grilled pineapple.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t also mention the Jerusalem artichokes and mouthwatering yuca paris mash that were crowd favourites when we checked it out—the sides are no afterthought here. And make sure you order the liquid nitrogen dessert for a dramatic surprise when it arrives at your table.
