Since it was first built in 1889, Queensland’s landmark Breakfast Creek Hotel has been synonymous with good times—whether you’re enjoying a hearty pub feed, grabbing a pint with your mates, or simply kicking back at your local. And now, the icon is entering a brand-new era, unveiling the first stage of a $2.75 million transformation.
Breathing new life into the storied pub while maintaining its historic character, Phase 1 will launch a complete renewal of the Spanish Garden Steakhouse , which includes a brand-new Pizza Kitchen seamlessly integrated with the venue’s heritage architecture. And yes, that means woodfired pizza will be on the menu for the very first time at Brekky Creek—best enjoyed in the fresh open-air design of the beer garden with an ice-cold bevvy in hand.
The always popular Spanish Garden Steakhouse has received a complete refresh that champions its past, with expanded capacity, semi-enclosure and upgraded air-conditioning just in time for summer. The highlight? A new dry age cabinet at the entrance making room for a greater selection of dry aged meats and new premium cuts from local producers like Darling Downs, Nolans, Five Founders, and Black Onyx.
On the menu, much-loved classics continue to stand the test of time like the 60-year staple Idaho potato and coleslaw. There’s also an expanded cocktail selection and wine list, alongside the pub’s 135-year-old tradition of serving XXXX off the wood.
“This is more than just a facelift. We’ve channelled the pioneering spirit that defines the Breakfast Creek into vibrant, contemporary spaces that set the tone for modern pub culture,” ALH Managing Director Paul Carew said. “This is one of the most iconic pubs in Queensland, if not Australia. It’s important that we continue to honour its legacy, while also ensuring a best-in-class hospitality experience for everyone that comes through the doors.”
This is just the first phase for the people’s pub, with more upgrades slated for 2026 including new private event spaces and outdoor dining areas.
The pizza ovens will be heating up on Monday 17 November, with the first 100 people to order pizza at Breakfast Creek Hotel from 3pm only paying $1. Yep, you read that right—a whole pizza for only a gold coin. You can find out more here or book your table here.
