The Verdict

With industrial styling, sky high ceilings and wide windows overlooking the street for prime people watching views, Chu Bistro is uber casual, perfect for midweek lunches or last minute dinner plans with the crew. From the pork and chicken chive dumplings in lashings of chilli oil to the crispy fried eggplants with szechuan dressing, the menu is made for sharing—though you might not want to after a bite of the turmeric marinated fried chicken cutlets doused in soy chilli sauce.

A signature is the fat rice noodles with Chinese sausage, fish cakes, chicken and eggs in soy sauce, but heftier dishes also include twice cooked sticky pork ribs and crispy skin duck, though there’s plenty to keep vegetarians sated too. Meanwhile, at the bar, you’ll find a list of locally brewed beers and creative Asian-inspired cocktails like the Cherry Blossom shaken up with gin, rose and vanilla dry vermouth, cherry jam, lemon and rose tea.
