The Verdict
City Winery has quickly established itself as an iconic Fortitude Valley location for wine and food lovers alike. This venue is the city's only (for now) urban winery and cellar, which is pretty impressive given the last operating winery in Brisbane closed over 160 years ago.
This sleek 70 seat venue serves delectable modern Australian cuisine for both lunch and dinner. The fresh dishes are all worth multiple visits for including the grilled market fish with smoked tomato and fermented zucchini or a classic grass-fed sirloin with beef fat potatoes, spring onion and roasted black garlic.
Although the food can stand alone its best to enjoy it with a perfectly paired wine from the specially crafted selection on offer. The winery has regular tasting sessions so you can sample the riesling, rosé, shiraz and plenty more or head to one of their boozy wine workshop where you can blend and bottle your own vino. The two hour workshop is well worth the trek, you'll get to play winemaker, measuring, mixing and tasting different blends to create the perfect drop. It might be a bit of a chemistry class throwback except we don't recall class ending with a delightful hand crafted bottle of red.
