Newstead now has a new spot for refreshing margs and vibrant Mexican-inspired flavours from a much-loved hospo legend.
Comuna has officially expanded its stable to the inner-city, opening a gorgeous and expansive venue on Cunningham Street decked out in soft pinks, layered neutrals and warm desert tones across the hacienda-style fit-out. Flowing seamlessly through indoor and outdoor spaces to make the most of Brisbane’s balmy climate, there are multiple dining zones made for everything from long lunches to family feasts and knock-off drinks.
On the food front, Comuna Newstead will deliver their usual zesty tacos and premium cocktails, as well as their crowd-favourite bottomless weekends. They’re also taking notes from the locals, offering bespoke picnic setups on the neighbouring green and even a dedicated dog menu for the pups that frequent the nearby park. Comuna literally means community after all.
The latest venture from Tim Johnson (Corbett & Claude, Tetto Rooftop Bar, Mai Gai) marks a significant step for the Together Hospitality portfolio as their largest venue to date. “This venue is a significant step forward for us and a project we’ve been incredibly passionate about,” said Johnson. “Newstead is one of Brisbane’s most dynamic suburbs, and we wanted to create something that genuinely adds to the lifestyle of the area—a place people can drop into of a morning, for lunch or after-work drinks or dinner and feel instantly at home.”
