This may just be the cutest news you’ve heard all year: a corgi-themed cafe has just landed in Brisbane, and it has its own resident corgi. Now open in a quiet cul de sac in Milton, Corgi Garden is a yellow and white striped pup-friendly cafe with a theme based entirely around the owners’ four-legged baby, a three-year-old corgi named KitKat.
Surrounded by office buildings, the tucked away location might seem like an odd spot to open a cafe, but there is a reason for it—owners Stephen Tam and Amy Chung wanted somewhere away from noisy streets where their doggos (the other is a border collie named TimTam) could hang without getting anxious. The cafe is definitely worth seeking out though, and not just for the quirky theme.
For starters, there’s corgi butt buns to devour—available every weekend, the sweet treats are shaped exactly like a corgi’s behind, and stuffed with custard or Nutella for good measure. But if you’re hungry for more than just a snack, you’ll be in good stead here, with a menu of brunch dishes that will have you coming back every Sunday. There’s the towering crispy prawn avo sandwich which comes piled with scrambled eggs, mayo, and seaweed flakes, the Japanese-style eggs benedict which is served up in a flaky croissant, and the big breakfast, dubbed the TimTam and KitKat.
Our pick though, is the Hong Kong-style French toast, stuffed with condensed milk and served up with crushed Oreos and ice cream, best paired with one of the cafe’s corgi-adorned cappuccinos. There’s also a handful of burgers, rice bowls and pasta dishes if you’d prefer to stop in for lunch.
Corgi Garden is open seven days, but if you want to meet KitKat you’ll have to drop in on a weekend, as he’s got better things to do from Monday and Friday. And if you want to bring your own doggo in, all breeds are welcome at the inclusive cafe—there’ll be puppuccinos, a water bowl and even beef mince or chicken tartare treats available on the weekend fur baby menu awaiting them.
