The Verdict

Located on Milton Road, Deer Duck Bistro is an asset to the west side dining scene. Their menu usually favours traditional European flavours, but they also like to throw in a few curveballs, and this season's line up is a cracker—think seared atlantic salmon on charcoal bao, chargrilled cuttlefish with guacamole and kangaroo filled with toasted pan brioche and foie gras.

Best of all though, they offer degustations at three different levels: First is a lightning-quick five course whiparound (perfect if you’re new to degustations), then there’s a slightly longer seven-course feast for the seasoned diner, and finally their stonking nine courses for the serious gourmand. 

Though it may not look it from the outside, the interiors are a cosy hodgepodge of vintage furnishings and quirky touches, with antique frames covering almost every inch of wall space. Any visit should also include a pre-dinner drink at Deer Duck Bar nextdoor, a romantic, dimly-lit spot pouring some seriously creative cocktails that involve smoke, bubbles and all manner of jaw-dropping ingredients.
