The question has been plastered on billboards and stuck on street poles—wtf is a Dirk? We’re here to fill you in on the goss.
Dirk’s is Brisbane’s new spot dedicated to the humble hot dog. It promises fast food, fresh as anything, and ready for you to bite into at Buranda Village in Woolloongabba.
“Hot dogs are one of the world’s most familiar foods, but they haven’t been given the same fresh thinking as burgers, burritos or kebabs,” says Dirk’s co-founder and CEO Liam Dempsey. “Dirk’s is our chance to change that”
It’s an easy-to-follow operation. Pick your protein from beef, chicken or plant-based, then choose your dirk from a line-up of seven dogs. The classic Dirk is loaded with house tomato relish, mustard, pickles and red onion; and the chilli cheese dirk is a three-bean chilli, chipotle cheese sauce and jalapenos number. If you feel so inclined, you can add on extra sauces and premium toppings such as XO bolognese and smashed avo.
You can make your Dirk’s outing a full meal with loaded chips, chicken tenders, and primo soft serve.
There’s some serious names behind this new joint. Co-founder Simon McNamara founded Viva Juice which was acquired by Boost Juice, where he served as CEO. He was also a founding shareholder in Grill'd and co-founded BOUNCEinc. He's joined at Dirk's by fellow BOUNCEinc alum Liam Dempsey and James Hoban, with chef Matt Wilkinson on board as a culinary consultant.
Dirk’s is officially opening on Friday 21 August, trading on the daily from 10am to 9pm. A second store in South Bank is also already in the works and expected to open in October.
