Emily Yeoh is the first restaurant for Masterchef 2014 contestant Emily Yeoh, after spending the six years refining her trade at the highly acclaimed Attica in Melbourne, as well as our own GOMA and Blackbird. In her transition from biomedical engineer to culinary queen and Masterchef alumni, Emily was inspired to create a menu her grandmother would be proud of, with her Paddington venue paying homage to her Cantonese and Malaysian heritage.
For a cuisine that can err on the heavy and greasy side in the wrong hands (i.e. us trying to DIY sweet and sour pork), Emily Yeoh packs a tonne of flavour into a refreshingly lighter style of dining, with an emphasis on simple and honest cooking which will have you coming back for more. For starters, try an array of duck spring rolls, pork and duck wontons and aburi salmon on calamari toast, then choose from the likes of signature mudcrab, fragrant hainan chicken and Moreton Bay bug laksa for mains.
The boneless duck and lychee red curry is a real draw card here—if you can catch it before it sells out. Also on offer are an assortment of vegetarian, noodle and rice dishes, all of which are so good you’ll wish you ordered a double portion just to have leftovers tomorrow. If you get a craving at home, you can always order in—Emily Yeoh is available for takeaway as well as dining in.
