Brisbane, we've been developing quite an obsession with low and slow cooked American food over the last few years, and it's easy to figure out why—there is no greater comfort food than a platter of tender, melt-in-your-mouth meat with a side of chips and coleslaw. The latest addition to the scene is Frankie's Smokehouse, who've taken over a corner of Wooloongabba with the biggest wood-fired smoker you ever saw.
Take a seat inside or out (the festoon-lighting lit outdoor area by the smoker is a vibe on a balmy night) and eat your fill of platters piled with beef short ribs, pulled pork ribs or a mix of smoked brisket, pulled pork and hotlink sausages, plus sides of pickles, coleslaw, pickled jalapenos, BBQ sauce, bread rolls and fries. Not sure you can handle that much meat? There's also a selection of shared plates like wings and loaded fries as well as pulled pork and brisket rolls.
