Paddington just scored a new laneway Italian restaurant, one that’s sleek and stylish enough for date night but also relaxed enough that you won’t feel out of place popping in for a casual weeknight dinner. Landing right on Given Terrace, Fratelli is easy to spot by its red and white striped awning, with seating available in the stone-walled dining room or outside on the breezy deck.
The extensive menu is all about traditional Italian fare made entirely by hand, from the fresh pastas to the soft and doughy pizza bases. Start with something from the burrata section, where you’ll find buffalo burrata from Tamborine Cheese Factory topped with the likes of smoked salmon and homemade dill dressing or black truffle dressing.
Other starters include herb and garlic focaccia, beef tartare and crispy fried octopus, but don’t go too overboard, as you’ll want plenty of room for the main event—the carbs. Whether your preferred vehicle is pizza or pasta, they’ve got you covered, with pastas like rich beef brisket bolognese gnocchi, crab and ricotta-filled cappelletti, or spaghetti carbonara, and an array of traditional pizzas. Our pick though, would be the not-so-traditional Tamborine pizza, which is topped with five different cheeses from the Tamborine Cheese Factory.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an Italian restaurant without a decadent tiramisu for dessert, which you’ll find on the menu alongside a stracciatella tart and a selection of sorbets. Pair it all with a refreshing cocktail, or one of the many Italian vinos from their wine list.
