The Details

Calling all hardcore foodies, we’ve sorted your next mouth-watering meal out in Brisbane. Offering up a delectable à la carte selection, impressive banquet menu and even the chance to get behind the grill with a cooking class, The Golden Pig in Newstead really does have it all.

It’s no surprise given the dynamic force behind this foodie haven, chef/owner Katrina Ryan, has a slew of notable names under her belt, including time at Rockpool and Spirit House. But she’s not stopping there, because The Golden Pig’s Pan Asian-inspired menu even scored a Chef’s Hat at the Good Food Awards last year—so you know it’s good.

The restaurant is located in a spacious old warehouse, serving some serious modern industrial vibes. Rendered concrete floors and towering brick walls set the scene, complemented with exposed lighting and an abundance of plants. On a sunny day, you can’t beat pulling up a chair beneath their huge warehouse windows and ordering up a cold brew—it’s pure bliss.

Speaking of tipples, you’ll surely take notice of the considered drinks menu, offering an extensive selection of local craft beers and boutique wines. We recommend kicking off the foodie festivities with a bottle of vino and a few small bites from the à la carte menu—it’s a yes to the pot sticker dumplings.

And that’s just the beginning. Make sure you leave room for the show-stopping ‘Chef's Selection’ banquet, offering a curated taste of Katrina’s favourites for $80pp, or $49pp for lunch (Friday and Saturday). Expect tasty highlights like scallops with miso butter, sweet and spicy Korean fried chicken or crispy Sichuan tofu. Turns out foodie heaven really does exist.

The best part is, you can make it a meal with the whole crew—cue the birthdays, work lunches and celebrations—because veggie, vegan and coeliac banquets are also available. And if you’re looking to try something a little bit different, why not book in for one of Katrina’s cooking classes, where you can learn the intricacies of cuisines from around the world.

Is your tummy seriously rumbling by now? Same. Sort it stat and book your next meal at The Golden Pig
